Their cutesy humor was annoying and not really funny. Jenna's laugh is also annoying. For some reason I thought they were going to be really likable. I do like Jenna's voice. It's husky in a cool kind of way. Actually I guess I should only say Jenna is annoying. Barbara wasn't all that bad, but definitely not funny.
More importantly, they were a vital cog in softening Bush's image. That was their purpose - inject some humor, evoke images of family and togetherness. Show some self deprecation. Even Barbara and George HW played a part by holding up the signs. Very clever by the planners of the RNC. Good work gentlemen. I believe it worked very well.
The Kerry girls are much older. The Bush twins just graduated from college. What do you expect from 22 year olds? Heck, it took John Kerry until his late 20's before he could sit in front of Congress and betray our troops. Even he couldn't do that at age 22.
They did what I expected them to do. They're 22 years old or so, and they were speaking before a crowd at MSG. How old are the Kerry girls? I know they're at least a little bit older, and I think that plays into it a bit. Overall, I don't think it matters what either set of daughters has to say.
I'm not sure but one of them is old enough to wear see thru dresses that show off her boobs at a public event. Isn't that what really matters?
The other big news of the evening is that the Swift Boat Veterans for TRUTH have now taken their ads national. Their ads are now playing on CNN, FoxNews and MSNBC. Kerry's WATERLOO continues to be front and center in front of likely voters. Have there ever been more effective dollars spent in a political campaign? Kerry's poll numbers, specifically in the battleground states, are dropping as fast as Howard Dean's numbers after he made his throat hoarse. Van Odell is my new hero by the way. Thank you for your service, Van.
The Bush girls were clueless up on the podium, and TJ's tactic is to steer the subject away from their bomb of a speech. C'mon man, that's too transparent.
No, that is not my tactic. I've already explained their presence in this thread. I devoted time to it. This is the Official Day 2 thread. Alll events of Day 2 are fair game.
"She (refereing to Barbara Bush -the grandmother) thinks 'Sex [and] the City' is what married people do, and never, ever talk about." "And if we really beg them, they'll even 'shake it like a polaroid picture'." Harmless. I guess you'd rather them stick out their tongues? Hey, they even said that they are not very political. But they did just fine.
What a joke. Obama got the typical sympathy for his poor man's blight and race baiting, but let's face it, he has NO WHERE NEAR the star power of Arnold. People that don't even care about politics would stop to watch Arnold speak. He's a star. He delivered a powerful, effective speech that hammered home foreign policy, economic, individual freedoms, and smaller government issues. He was funny and articulate. He was a star. Teresa's was the worst speech in the history of any convention. Have you noticed how she has disappeared from the Kerry campaign. Coincidence? Nope. She stunk up the joint. She came across as haughty and annoyed. Laura Bush came across as the 'neighbor next door'. She has considerable favorable ratings and is a gold mine for attracting soccer moms. ADVANTAGE REPUBLICANS
the bush daughters speech was pretty annoying. but who cares its not like they had anything important to do in the campaign. i think they should have spiced it up at the end with a foam party and each of them doing a shot saluting their dad.
Its a good thing the Constitution forbids anyone younger than 35 to run for President. So I would rather debate the pros and cons of their dad than them.
If this is now the official day two thread I gotta say that Laura Bush gave a great speech. It was clear and direct while at the sametime being warm without a trace of the smugness and self-righteousness that so often clouds Republican speeches. Luckily for the Democrats there won't be a debate between Laura Bush and Teresa Heinz Kerry because IMO Laura Bush would blow her away. And that's coming from someone who plans on voting for Kerry.
