Sort of.. On Matt and Jeremey's evening sports talk show in Houston, Matt Bullard is quoted as wanting Olajuwon to hurry up and make up his mind to sign or leave so "the people that want to stay in Houston" can have their contracts resolved. He stopped short of saying that Dream is being selfish, but he did see how some fans in Houston could be under that impression. These aren't exact quotes, but it basically sounds like Bullard is indeed calling Olajuwon selfish. -Elvis! ------------------

I heard this report too. It sounds like Bullard is upset because if Hakeem is to get more money, they will have to renounce Bullard's arse. $16.6 million - Cap space available - $ 2.86 million - Shandon's cap hit - $ .68 million - Moochie's cap hit - $ 2.96 million - Bullard's cap hit - $ 6.00 million - MoT's contract? = 4.1 million - Amount Hakeem was offered So if Bullard retains his Bird rights, would he be in line to make more than Hakeem? ------------------ [This message has been edited by JoeBarelyCares (edited July 24, 2001).]

Maybe Bull is using his vet status to express what the other players are feeling in a way for Hakeem to understand what affect he's having on the team. ------------------
It's Dream's life. I think he deserves the opportunity to weigh his options. Just like we all would want for ourselves. However, I think he should be communicating with those players he's holding up... just to let them know that he's fielding offers and that he deserves this time to negotiate his life. It's unfortunate, but he's the top dog in a world of little dogs. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
Absolutely Shark,Bullard can not only get away with saying this, but he is the perfect one to speak up for both the players and management, for he is a Rocket lifer. PSJ is right too.Dream deserves the chance to look at his options. The lack of communications does not surprise me.We've seen this kind of behavior throughout the years, esp. when it comes to money.Hey,Dream deserves to negotiate the best deal possible(up to a point),and I'm confident that he realizes how much latitude he has and will sign soon...my guess- 2 yrs./10-12 mil...a deal in my book...and almost everyone goes home happy. ------------------ Everybody has a little bit of Watergate in em - Billy Graham
I was very happy to here bullard saying this. I dont care about this stuff about who bullard is to say this. The bottom line is he wants to stay and so do the other players from reports but hakeem is delaying things.. it would be differnt if it was just hakeem but these delays are causing problems for other players such as bull.. mo.. etc ..People were calling in saying. .well it's only been a week. actually hakeem has had since the first of juuly to talk.. and people were saying.. hakeem was out of town. well who cares.. that's his problem. he needed to either let his agent do the work or stay in town.. props to bull.. and for everyone saying they are just going to get rid of bull and he's upset about that etc.. bullard has offers from other teams such as the lakers supposedly but he wants to stay here.. i'd rather have players who want to stay here then ones who think they might want to.. at some point mo and the other may have to leave because they can't hold out waiting forever ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be" [This message has been edited by Rocket Fan (edited July 24, 2001).] [This message has been edited by Rocket Fan (edited July 24, 2001).]
As wierd as it may sound, Bullard has more pull in the locker room than Dream. Dream is quiet and keeps to himself. Bull takes a leadership role quite often in the locker room. I wouldn't say he was speaking on behalf of the team necessarily, but there is no question he is voicing the frustration of the rest of the team. I doubt that other guys waiting on contracts are real thrilled about Olajuwon's delays. ------------------ Who's your buddy? Who's your pal? I am, aren't I?
Time is running out quickly,or else Mo,Moochie and Shandon are going to sign with other teams, but if that happens, then it won't be Olajuwon's fault but of the Rockets organization. The Rockets could have renounced Hakeem's rights earlier to resign the rest of the free agents,if they were or are disappointed with the amount of money and the length of the contract that he is seeking. ------------------
PSJ, Webber managed to decide between at least 15 offers already. How long can it take Hakeem to field 4 or 5? I totally agree with Bull. If Dream wants to stay, sign alreay. If not, let everyone know so they can all move on. ------------------ I cut all the heads off of a Hydra, and all I got was this StupidMoniker. Webber lied about 12-15 offers, if not then the offers were never serious. I also don't think Mooch or Taylor or Anderson are getting antsy yet, they are probably relaxing until Hakeem signs. If Norris gets more money and Anderson has no intentions of staying then you could forget what I just said. ------------------ "banging Shaq is a whole different expirience"-Pete Babcock Behold the power of quotation
well i think they probably are getting nervous.. would you relax if you know there is apossiblity of hakeem waiting a long time to sign. then signing for too much and by that time all the other teams have no cap and you are forced to sign for cheap with the rockets because hakeem took a lot of cap space or whatever.. they probably are sure the rockets will leave room for them.. but when people are dealing with jobs etc they dont like to wait long enough that they could end up with no options ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Is Dream so narrowly focused that he doesn't consider the impact that his languid pace has on the other players? Will Dream pick up the pace now that there is some grumbling about it? I have a question: If Bullard's cap hit is currently $2.68 mil (which I do not dispute), why haven't the Rockets already signed Bull to the $1 mil veteran minimum? That would clear at least $1.5 mil of additional space with which to re-sign Dream. I actually have been wondering about this for awhile, since I knew Bull made over $1 mil last season and his cap hit would be much bigger. Bullard should have been the first move made by the Rockets in order to open up room for the "big money" free agents. Just conjecture here, but are the Rockets considering paying Bullard $3-4 mil next year? Otherwise, it makes no sense why he hasn't already signed. ------------------
Mango, Lately I've read your laundry list question posts w/ the announcer's voice from the old Batman series. It makes for a delightful read.
