Since we are acquiring more draft picks in this year's draft and both D. Williams and D. Howard stating that they don't want to come to Houston it just makes since to Build Through The Draft and keep our picks. Pick up a FA like J. Smith who would be a grat addition to our roster. There is no need for Morey to pack all these draft picks away. We are on a rebuilding mission that needs to start now. Teams are getting younger and still competing and making it in to the playoffs. If they can do it and as brillant as a GM Morey is claimed to be then I don't see why on earth we can't do the same.
The one thing that people fail to realize is that if these moves weren't being made to make a run at Dwight then Les most likely wouldn't of approved the approach in the first place. Les wouldn't want to trade our proven players for top 10 picks because he still wants to win now and not rebuild. People are getting caught up in all this trading hype and forget that the trades are only being made to obtain Dwight. Without him on the market, there most likely is no trades.
Why would you want Howard when sources close to him have said that he doesn't consider Houston a viable option for himself. And on top of he has only 1 year on his contract before he hites FA. Stupid move if ever there was one to invest multiple draft picks for someone that doesn't want to be here in the 1st place.
Not a terrible notion, but Josh Smith is not a free agent. He would have to be acquired by trade, presumably with one of the draft picks you plan to rebuild with.
Million dollar question that NO ONE has yet to answer in a way that makes sense. It's a stupid move that is Morey's rox career suicide. He'll be gone within 2 seasons if he does that move..... Save a MIRACLE of D-Will signing here also.......this is his Waterloo...
two years from now, they'll realize they want to build via the draft and will be two years behind in the process..... Meanwhile, one of the picks or a couple of the picks they traded away will be All-stars. Guaranteed.
Two years from now the picks could of been huge busts and the Rockets would be in the same place. I don't see why you think picking someone outside the top 3 is such a sure fired all-star player. It is a crap shoot, most players at the spot we will probably end up picking don't make it. Even #1 picks aren't sure things, there are plenty of those in the past that never made all-star games as well. Dwight Howard is a gamble no one can argue that, but I don't get how you can sit there and assume that drafting isn't a gamble when it has been for as long as the draft has been around.
Morey should do a Les fake-out, and use those picks before Les gets wise ...then tell Les that he's protecting him from himself.
even if we do what you're suggesting... we will suffer through at least two or three more seasons of 8(at best) -14th pick..... then we will have to hit a Durant like home run somewhere along the line when we dont even have top ten picks..... we can only get role players with the picks we currently have..... So with the fourteenth pick in the 2013 draft the Houston Rockets select:__________ short answer -
the question has been answered probably a hundred times over at this point, but you seem to prefer to regurgitate the same flawed logic rather than listen to an opposing viewpoint
I all for that because at this point we aren't a playoff team as is and even if we made the playoffs we wouldn't go very far. I say we go young and build throught the draft until a key ALL STAR FA (Durant in my dreams) signs with the Rockets. I did say in my dreams..lol
Rockets believe if they have Howard either a) they can convince him to stay when he sees we're worth it (and he's bluffing when he says he'll turn down that extra one year and cash on his contract) b) If he decides to walk, we can work out a sign and trade, get a huge trade exception and possibly a few extra assets on the side. Howard would want the sign and trade to get that extra year, the other team would want it to be able to keep him one more year, and we would want it so we have room to go after another superstar and start the process over. b) is not ideal, and going after howard is risky no matter how you look at it. BUT, you don't win championships without taking big risks. You think we can win a championship with mid round picks? No way. We could become a decent playoff team, but that's not the goal. You think we can win by tanking? Still risky. You waste whole seasons to have a small chance at that top pick. If you happen to be bad in a year where there's only one superstar available and you get the number 2 pick, then you screwed yourself (see Bobcats, this year). Morey and Alexander understand that championships are won not with just stars, you need superstars. If you have any chance to get one you go for it and figure out the rest later.
Oh i've heard that *other* flawed viewpoint spewed out in relation to why we should... But no one has made a legit case for this move other than hopes and dreams. Screw that. "We hope he stays" "D-Will, baybeee!" "If he leaves...cap space....yay!!!" Eff that. He isnt staying.....D-Will aint coming....and when he bolts and 1 or 2 of those 3 picks becomes the *STAR* we were looking for in the first place.....then what? No DH and no 2012 draft picks.... Back to square 1 and all for a rental piece to a team that is years away from being a contender as is. Nothing flawed about that logic cause that's gonna be FACT once this goes down.... If it doesnt, thank God!!!
In this scenario, I'd blow up the roster through trades and try and get MKG, Harrison Barnes, and Jones III.
