Same here, I've pretty much enjoyed it throughout, think as a whole it's much better than any scifi or dramatic show I've seen in a long while. I don't miss the space battles at all to be honest. Its cool and all but not the real point of a show like this. Very interested to see they wrap it up tonite. Just FYI Caprica is set before the first cylon war if I'm not mistaken.
I have watched it throughout and at various points have enjoyed and been annoyed with it. That is the problem with a dramatic series, though - they almost never stay good and end well. I think I will miss it when it is over but that is based mostly on some of the original season's impact and potential of the show vs where a lot of it ended up going. Apparently I am an idiot, though, because this thread was the first I have heard of a Caprica series. So that is why they are doing the flashbacks now? Will it have much of the same cast? Maybe because I skip through commercial I missed something? Now I have to google. EDIT: Wait a minute - after reading up a bit - the series will be 50 years earlier when humans created cylons? I thought the "Final 5" created cylons on earth thousands of years ago? Is this one of those holes in TV drama logic or am I missing something?
I enjoyed the dramatic part of the show...the relationships between Adama/Lee, Lee/Starbuck, Baltar/Six, Helo/Athena/Boomer, Adama/Tigh, etc. were all great stuff in the beginning of the show. Then the show went way overboard with the mystic mystic stuff and with the cylon politics. Too much mumbo jumbo with little real progression for way too long. I thought shortening the length of the show would tighten up the pacing and plot, but it got even sloppier.
I haven't read too much about Caprica, but the writers mentioned Daniel to play a large role in the prequel and also to clear up why Boomer's line are numbered 8's even though there are 12 mentioend cylon lines.
I haven't seen any spoilers, but I think the flashbacks are there for a greater purpose, not just to "add characterization at the last second." I think the flashbacks will lead to some WTF reveal or something. I'm very much looking forward to tonight, but I'll be sad when it's all over. What will I watch now (besides Lost, 24, and Burn Notice)?
Not trying to be cynical, but I think the flashbacks are nothing more than filler fluff that adds nothing to the show. Perhaps the finale will reveal what the "greater purpose" is. When it comes to busting out in the late innings and capping everything off with a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th, Deep Space Nine has all of the major sci-fi series beat. That's the way to end a long series.
DS9 freaking loved that show, my favorite of Trek series, whole reason I gave the new BSG a shot because of Moore.
I agree - the Last episode was the last straw After all the crap he been through behind Starbuck . .. come to find out she was sexing his brother too??!?!?!?!? What the Frak?? I use too . . .but 1. Without them it sounds boring 2. I mentally say .. HEY it Distortion/sound etc coming through the pilot's helmet speaker [Weak but . .. ] Rocket River
Some Odd reason I think Baltar's Dad will be major in Caprica [If they reveal Baltar is Half-Cyclon tonite . . .then I know he will be] Rocket River
well ... that was explained pretty early on in season 1 that she was going to marry his brother. I have no problem with them having a relationship. I have a problem with the screen time they chose to gave it. It wasn't that interesting and they should've used that time to flesh out something more relevant.
Seems like that's how the great, long-running shows work. When a series starts off with a bang like Heroes and BSG, I start thinking the first season magic will not be recaptured.
Deep Space and Babylon 5 come to mind as shows that started out slow and ended up being Fantastic Rocket River
It will be showing at the Alamo Draft House. It won't let me buy tickets online though. I believe it's free show. http://www.drafthouse.com/westoaks/shows.php?id=296 General Info: 281-920-9211 Showtime info: 281-920-9268 Join us for the 3 Hour Finale March 20th, Doors at 6PM! Not very good. BSG went out with a complete fizzle. For me, the last 45 minutes were hot air. The reason they made it a 2 hour finale was because the last hour had no chance at all of standing by itself. It's almost like once Sci-Fi decided to end the series, the writers didn't have enough material to fill the alloted episodes. The last 3 hours ended up being worth about 1 hour of my time. Very bad closing.
I dunno, I thought it was good overall... I actually liked how they devoted an entire hour after the main battle sequence to tie up all the different character stories / relationships. At least it was conclusive, for the most part. My only remaining question: What's the deal with Kara Thrace??? Human? Cylon? Ghost?
