I was just looking over the upcoming regular season schedule, and I know we are all used to having slow starts, but this November schedule is absolutely ridiculous. We play the Lakers, Mavericks, Spurs, and the Suns twice. Of our 17 games, only 5 are with non-playoff teams from last year. Tue 30 @ LA Lakers Thu 01 @ Utah Sat 03 vs Portland Mon 05 @ Dallas Tue 06 vs San Antonio Fri 09 vs Milwaukee Sun 11 @ Charlotte Tue 13 @ Memphis Wed 14 vs LA Lakers Fri 16 @ San Antonio Sat 17 vs Phoenix Wed 21 vs Dallas Fri 23 @ Miami Sat 24 vs Denver Mon 26 @ LA Clippers Wed 28 @ Phoenix Thu 29 @ Golden State While the preseason has been encouraging and exciting, I still think there's going to be a bit of an adjustment period to get the turnovers down and the defense set. I guess the good news is that we should be much better than our record looks after the first month, and the even better good news is that the next 3 months after November look like a walk in the park.
i don't want it to be any easier. this is a test to how fast we can pick up adelman's system. if we can go 12-5 or 11-6 through the first month, look for us to challenge for the best record. again, u want to see what this team is made of.
Those games should give us an idea of how the Rockets match up with the West's playoff teams. Another thing good about having some of the hard games early in the schedule is that we can have a strong push into the playoffs and go into with some momentum like we did 3 years ago in the second half of the season!
Difference being that Van Gundy was coach then and it was quite predictable that that record was fool's gold as he wouldn't utilize the amazing young talent at his disposal (Snyder, Novak, Spanoulis) and eventually wore out his vets over the long haul for a few cheap wins. Look for those three to play a huge role this year in keeping the starters fresh.
I like it, cuz it is a very good test for the Rockets to see how those rookies are doing and our bench players performance.
I wouldn't call that schedule brutal. 10/17 are on the road and the teams are more difficult than average. Seems like we've had tougher Novembers. No big deal.
November what a month to remember! It will surely seperate the men from the boys. Because of the depth of quality teams, by the end we should know exactly where we stand and what we need to do to get better Even so, we still could be very successful!
I think we have already talked about that and that was a thread made about that. But hell yes, November will be so tough to start
Is that a joke or are you being serious? Snyder, Novak, and Spanoulis aren't even going to be on the team come opening night, lol.
He's being sarcastic. Last season there was a lot of b****ing that we weren't developing our young players (mainly V-SPAN) by a few um, garrulous posters (*cough*DaDa*cough*). There were complaints that JVG didn't properly utilize his bench, when it was apparent to most that his bench sucked ass.
I would call it brutal mainly because we play 6 games against the 3 best teams in the league. That's half of our total matchups against them played in only the first month. Then again, you could argue that the spurs usually start slow, so it's better to play them early than late.
We'll be alrite, gotta keep in mind those teams we are facing are also getting accustomed and getting into the swing of things early on. Not just us, but gotta agree a rather easier schedule awaits us come March-April
The thing is, Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix all have pretty much the same rosters coming back from last year, with a few new additions. But none of the teams have the prospect of starting a new season with a new coach with a new system and 8 new offseason acquisitions. Not saying it's impossible, actually I'm not even saying we'll do terrible. Just saying the schedule is tough.
