When on Windows, I like Mozilla Firebird. When on Linux, I like KDE's Konqueror browser.

*no edit*

To save flamers the trouble...Not that I don't know that Firebird is also available on Linux, I just like Konqueror that's all.

I like Konqueror too -- I haven't used it in about eight months though. It was great, but still pretty un-polished -- reminded me of Mozilla 0.7 or so. It really looked like it would rock, and I'd love to see what Apple's done with it (Safari uses Konqueror's rendering engine). I'll check it out sometime after I put Gentoo on my box.

Konqueror looks pretty damn good now...to me at least. And I got Gentoo 1.4 (2.6 kernel) on my box too! It's sooooo fast because I compiled from stage one tarball. It also helps that I used some pretty agressive CFLAGS too I guess :)

ha.....has anyone else tried the about:mozilla trick on Firebird?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, type about:mozilla in your address bar and hit enter. It brings up a funny little bit about the fall of IE.......
If you're using IE, typing the same thing brings up a solid blue screen..

Been using Firebird for about 2 months now, I dig it.

Firebird, has bugs, but it doesnt seem as vulnerable to the normal browsing crap we deal with, namely popups. It works remarkably well and you dont need some extra "toolbar" or some other stuff taking up your screen to do it with, its just there and it works!
I really dig the preferences type of stuff IE doesnt put out there for you. I guess the old cliche for me would be its more "user friendly"...haha!

The only bad thing is sometimes I do have to reload a page cuz it might not read the source right or something or other, sometimes pages do require IE or Netscrape, something with animation or a movie...but thats about it.

Other than the reloading a page every once in a while, I like it better than IE.

*It also has some funky skins, mine is a walnut skin, looks like wood!

Harrisment -- I hadn't noticed that :D

IE Users check this out :) If you use Mozilla/Safari/Konqueror, you won't get it.

Found it on Slashdot:

Vengeance or anyone else:

If you download mozilla, does it automatically transfer all of your bookmarks, saved passwords and usernames etc. that you have on IE? I'm afraid to lose everything and have to start all over again.

You can export. In IE, there is a way to export and generate a bookmarks.html file... which you can then load into pretty much any other browser. Go to File->Import/Export... and then follow the directions. Then in Mozilla, go to Bookmarks->Manage Bookmarks, and choose File->Import.

At least, that's the way to do it in Firebird. I assume Mozilla is similar.

Sorry - as for passwords and usernames, you have to do that again, I believe. That seems logical for security purposes.

Maybe someone knows a way around it.

I like Mozilla, especially the tabbed browsing and the pop-up blocking. But I don't like that it doesn't keep track of my cookies for very long.

For example, if I sign-in on a message board like this one, I will have to sign in again if I go a few days without visiting, even if I specifiy that I want the board to remember me.

I've not understood why I can't get that feature to work properly.

If the skin says "not compatable with your version", you'll just have to pick something else. I suggest Pinball. There are 3 or 4 versions of Pinball there for the different versions of Mozilla Firebird. Sometimes after you download a skin, you might have to close the browser, then start it again for the skin to load. It's supposed to do it immediately, but Mozilla's always had difficulty doing that. They took that option ("use this theme" when installing a new theme) out for a while in the main Mozilla browser, but then it came back later. It's kind of hit or miss.

Tabbed Browsing is already enabled, there are a few options in the "Tools->Options" menu. There are a few extensions that really add some features to it. I like TabBrowser Preferences because it's really simple, and adds only one or two things, rather than some of the others that add 20-50 more options.

mrpaige -- could it perhaps be because you are behind a firewall? Just a thought -- I've never heard of that problem with Mozilla. However, it happens to me all the time at work, but it's because of our firewall at work, and its awful page-caching features.

I've used opera and have been pretty satisfied with it.

Although I might try mozilla, opera's getting semi-slow as of late and my internet explorer (ironically since I've installed opera) has gone to a slow pile of crap.

So looking for some alternatives.

The multiple window feature of opera though is quite nice.

Thanks Vengeance, got one more question though, i d-loaded the tabbrowser thing, and it says its a installed extension but for some reason its not letting tabbing sites, like i will keep my home page up then go to a new site and it changes my homepage instead of tabbing it. If that makes sense.......

Have you restarted the browser since you installed the extension? (you have to do that).

I'm not completely certain what you mean -- you want to create another tab and then browse from there?
