eye larry.... The Detroit Pistons and Larry Brown are parting ways, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2110640 The Pistons and Brown, sources said, moved closer Monday to a buyout of Brown's contract, which has three years left at $18 million. It was not immediately known if the buyout arrangement would be finalized Monday, and it remains to be seen whether Brown -- plagued by serious bladder complications throughout much of last season after hip surgery -- intends to take some time away from coaching. He could pursue a coaching job with the New York Knicks or a front-office job with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ex-Minnesota coach Flip Saunders is the leading candidate to replace Brown in Detroit after the Pistons came within one victory of winning back-to-back titles under the 64-year-old Brown.
Is Larry going to New York? That would be very interesting since he is not in the health to coach the Pistons. He He
His wife claims that he will not coach in NY. ESPN.COM has the story but ESPNEWS has not said nothing about this. Thats a shocker.
Good. Larry's ego is too big, and I didn't like the crap he pulled on his team in the playoffs. I'm so glad he didn't sign with the Rockets.
There was all sorts of talk that the buyout would specify that the payments would be contingent upon Brown NOT coaching the Knicks next year. I'd like to know if anything like that got included. Evan
If he doesn't coach the Knicks next year then.....Zekes next choice is Herb Williams...which also mean Ewing might be leaving us....No Problem with me
Maybe we could do a trade. Brown + Rasheed for JVG + Mike James, a first rounder and a second rounder.
Detroit still has his contract for 3 years 18 million. IF he still wants that money in some part the Pistons will have a say over when he coaches again, at least for the next year or two. Chances are he will get a buyout on the contingency that he doesn't coach this upcoming year. He will spend a year doing TV then join the Knicks.
If I understand correctly, then Detroit is actually buying out his contract meaning he is free to do whatever he wants. It is actually Detroit "letting go" of Brown because they do not want him to coach the team. From what I had heard on the radio, the owner didn't like what was going on about the Cavs and the Knicks during the playoffs so he didn't even want Brown back. If it was Brown that did not want to come back, then there would be no need for a buyout by the Pistons, correct?
the last coach i want in houston is larry brown. he'll be here for a couple of years, do very well maybe get us to the finals. then hold the franchise hostage for a complete offseason like he's doing in detroit and like he did in philly, and pretty much every other stop he's made. i don't know if he'll ever coach again but to tell you the truth i hope he doesn't, the drama he calls a coaching career has been old for about a decade now. he may be the least loyal guy you can find to coach a franchise.
Though you got to admit, almost every team he coached has gotten to the finals atleast once. And a few of those werent' even playoff when he got there.
