So perhaps Hollywood shouldn't have made The Passion of the Christ or the The Chronicles of Narnia since those make statments? FYI Walk the Line is all about personal views since its biopic.
I can understand how most Americans are uneasy about Gay cowboys but that is just a reflection of latent homophobia and ignorant stereotyping that somehow the idea that people who are icons of American manliness can't also be gay. There have been a few NFL players who have come out as gay like former Viking Esaro Tualo and former Houston Oiler Earnest Givens and according to them there are a few current players in pro-sports who are gay. We know that there are many gays who want to and do serve with distinction in the military. Like it or not Gays and Lesbians are in all segments of our society and while being a Gay cowboy seems like a radical and unpopular idea there are and will probably continue to be Gay cowboys.
yes because people who can always hide their sexual preferences definetely deal with more problems than those of color who are judged from the minute someone sees them. How many gay executives do Fortune 500 companies as compared to black executives? Nothing against you Batman, but your quote is the reason why the black vote is no longer a Democractic Party shoo in
When you use this word, are you referring to a fear or contempt of homosexuals? I DID NOT know Givens was gay. I'm really more shocked cuz I actually know who he is.
Both. Sorry to sound like Yoda but fear leads to contempt and it is a latent fear of homosexuals that somehow seeing homosexuality in any sort of positive light will lead to their being more homosexuals that drives the contempt for them. I don't know Givens personally but I saw him on an ESPN show awhile back about Gay professional atheletes. He didn't come out until he retired.
Well I dont know about the fear part. I dont see anything about them that would scare me. I do know I feel about them the same way I would about a mustard and wasabi sandwich; it's something I wouldn't want around me. I don't know if I hate them, that's a pretty strong word that I reserve only for people who I feel have harmed me or tried to harm me directly. I do think it's unnatural, and against God's laws, but at the same time I don't have a problem with talking to them at work or in social situations, because quite honestly I'm just as guilty of sinning as they are...I'll be the first to admit I like watching lesbians as much as the next guy.
Haven't seen the movie, but I will definitely do. Because in my opinion, Ang Lee made lots of great movies, which require fine directing and acting, comparing to some of huge budget, all computer, no ACTING big hits. I can see how gay cowboys could make people uncomfortable. I read some research note/report quite long ago, that only 5% of people are absolutely homosexual, and only 5% of all people are absolutely heterosexual. Surprisngly, the rest 90%, there is a secret gay somehow, somewhere, deep inside. Surprisingly, that research doesn't just apply to "soft" office hippies, but also apply to those very strong especially tough-talking guys. At some point of those people's lives, they feel attracted to same sex one way or another, even for cowboys.
I dont know where they get that 90% from. those numbers sound made up and pulled out of someone's rear end. I think even the most liberal peopel on this board would find that hard to believe
Animal Farm/1984. The Inferno. Gulliver's Travels. The Lysistrata. Fahrenheit 451. The Tin Drum. Heart of Darkness. Breakin' II: Electric Boogaloo
I don't think you're helping your case with the last example - you should have stuck with the original "Breakin'" And give me an update on the Aggie experience.
I wouldn't say that number is accurate, even it's slashed by half, 45% is still a large number. They did some research and surveys, and I am sure their questionaire is not as simple as "Are you gay?". We can't simply dismiss any theory without counter facts. Besides, experiencing sexual attraction towards same sex is almost as old as attraction towards opposite sex, and it certainly isn't a liberal thing only.
WHat do you guys think this will do for Jake and Heath's careers as prospective leading men? I personally think this might hurt them in the long run. thoughts?
I'd also like to see the demographic. First of all, there is a large percentage of the population that wouldn't even agree to a survey like that, so by default most of their candidates will probably be open minded already
Not sure if you saw a Chinese award-winning experimental movie called "Lan Yu". It is a love story between a gay and a playboy/re-discovered gay. Both main actors are pretty popular in Asia afterwards, for heterosexual roles.
I can honestly say that I have never been sexually attracted to a man - maybe I fall in that 5% range.
I haven't been able to find that piece of article or research. But I am sure that their questionaire is very tricky, along the lines that in certain scenarios, certain scenes, certain images, would you find certain male image beautiful or attracting etc. Just my guess.
Cultural differences though. Asian males sometimes touch hold hands or rub chests as a way of showing affection between friends.
But gays are much more tolerated in Western society. It's still a taboo in China, not only by law, but also by law enforcement and public perceptions. I think you are a little bit exaggerating with that holding hands and rubbing chests thing though Lots of Asian girls holding hands, and lots of Asian boys holding shoulders.
