I currently have a T-1 line her at my home office. Due to the expense of it, I am having it disconnected.

The problem is, I apparently have no other broadband options (no cable in my hood).

Can someone explain why a T-1 would work but not DSL?

    What about ISDN?

I don't know much about these sort of things, so any advice would be appreciated.

You could get dish which will give you good download speed but uses phone line for upload. Since most of the data is download, you might be ok.

I've already tried satelitte/Wild Blue. I junked it after 2 weeks. The latency was horrible and you couldn't run Vonage on it.

I think if they can offer T1 they could also offer DSL if they want to. However, they need center to process the data. It might be the case where they are justified to provide T1 service for business customers but there are not enough residential customers in your area to justify DSL center. DSL service deteriorates as it get further from the center while T1 do not suffer this problem(1.5 mb up and down no matter how far it is from the processing center).

Wow! no wonder you don't want to keep it unless it is for your business. That is like 5 or 6 DSL lines.

thats extremely cheap for a T-1

Checked a contact i have in a broad band company for ya but the best they can do is 375 a month so you were getting a hell of a deal....who were you going through?

And the other comment about the need for it justifiying the T1 centers versus the DSL centers.

Most business and bigger areas are going to have T1's in there office not just DSL so they can afford to have these centers up there.

When i talked to him the only other thing he mentioned was that Alltell charges a bit more so if they did it for someone on an Alltell network they charge more....

I've been on ISDN before and it's not really all that....basically just putting two 56K modems together and theres your entry level ISDN line...it was good a long time ago but definietly not going to like it if your coming from a T1. But if you have to sacrafice becuase of the price then i guess your going to have to do it.
