Sources have said that Big Country reeves is tied to Abdul Rahim. I say bring them on, as long as Cato is in the deal. By getting Reeves we at least gain the ability for a center to score, and get some boards. Were trading Cato for a older yet better center. We also get a great sf/pf. ------------------ "Kenny, The Basketball scientist, Whoo Hoo." Charley B, on TNT

I guess it's okay to reply to this thread... since it's specific. Aren't any of you guys scared of the fact that Blubber Butt can stretch offenses; that is, he's Rudy's ideal center. He can shoot the outside j, and his mammoth girth seems to be what led to the whole Two Sandwiches fiasco in the first place. I'm scared. Maybe if the whole compaq center turns out wearing Billy Bob teeth and fat guy suits he'll work out hard. ------------------ We're going to stay together until something happens, if something happens. - Sidney Lowe on Shareef's career in Vancouver.
If taking Big CUNTry is what it takes to get Reef, i say bring him on. He may not be all that good, but its worth it to get an under rated should be allstar. here is a trade that works cap wise, tell me what you think. Houston gets oug West, Bryant Reeves, Shareef Abdur Rahim Vancouver gets:Shandon Anderson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Kenny Thomas, Matt Bullard, 1,500,000 Dollars ------------------ The Rockets Championship in 2001...Be-Steve-it
Lewie, that would be a bad deal for Houston. Who's our back up shooting guard then, Doug West? Also we would have no depth ------------------
Why trade Shandon now, he won't be included in any trade cause his salary is so low compared to his actual worth. ------------------ "What is it with this girl, has she got beer flavoured nipples??" - Heath Ledger in 10 things I hate about you

The real question is, will we be able to get someone on the free agent market better than Shareef? Cap space is nice, but best case scenario has the Rockets adding a single marquee free agent to the roster at some point in the next year or two. I don't think the team will have the cap space to add two (like Orlando did) even if it failed to sign Mo or Shandon. If the team could get CWebb or Finley, I'd say go for it. We could even save it for the next season, when more free agents might be available. In that case the cap space would be valuable, because it bought us a good player. But the risk to that is the Chicago situation. Only 2 teams were really in big-time free agent competition last season, and one of them got gipped. This coming offseason, I expect more teams will be left out in the cold completely, or fighting to give their $$ to second-tier free agents (like Mo Taylor). Believe me, Houston is going to have to pay alot to keep him. By trading for Shareef and Country (if thats even on the table), the Rockets would take the safe way out. A proven SF/PF in Rahim, one of the few double-figure rebound guys left in the NBA, and a solid, young offensive player. I'm not sure even a Michael Finley (who will almost certainly re-sign with Dallas) would be a better pickup. I don't know if a Reef-Francis-Mobley-Anderson-Cato combination could take the Rockets to the Finals, but it would definitely be a perennial playoff team. ------------------ "Thirty-seven?" -Randall, Clerks www.clutchtown.com
Jeff, even without Reeves in the deal, SAR would take up any cap flexibility of the Rockets. And if we are going to be over, we may as well be over by a lot. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
Reeves does not draw the opposing team's center out of the lane to open things up for our guards. Reeves does not spread the floor with his 20 foot jumpshot. Reeves does not run the floor well. In short, Reeves does not fit the current Rocket system. He might have fit when we ran a post-oriented offense with Hakeem and Barkley, but he would like Gheorge Muresan in our current offensive scheme. That's a pretty expensive towel-waver ... ------------------
This one just came to me: Juan, i remember Les mentioning that he didn´t want to face the luxury tax... and with that trade, it sure as hell look like we would be in some major trouble as far as the luxury tax goes. That being said, i still think that Reef is worth the price of admission. It just doesn´t look very likely with the bashing Jeff is giving to this scenario. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
Thanos, yeah, I was remembering that too. Signing up Rahim and Reeves would run counter to what Les was saying he was trying to do fiscally. For all the talk I've done today about the feasability of taking Reeves and Rahim together, I don't think that is at all what the trade is. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
Why wouldn't we trade Hakeem for Reeves and Reef? Next year, if our team doesn't change, we'll more than lkely be picking up a SF in the draft...We won't be picking it up through free agency, Mo will be picking up the cash.....This way, Reef gets the mney we would've payed MO, and instead of a SF, we pickup a PF in the draft.....Anderson WILL stay and get his bird rights, after which he'll sign a huge contract.....This is what our team will look like: Cato/Reeves/Collier Kenny Thomas/Drafted player Reef/Langhi Anderson/Mobley Francis/Moochie We can trade Walt for any backup PF, anyone who'll take him next year...after all, his contract ends after THAT season and he'd free up 5 million worth of capspace in an excellent FA class.... Only problem would be, we'd already have Reef and the drafted players as new players to our line-up, Cato to alesser degree....So, we'll barely make the playoffs in the first year, but we'll sky-rocket after that..Whereas, if we keep our current line-up, Draft a SF, sign and trade Hakeem for a few backups and draft picks.....We'll be well into the playoffs next year.... ------------------
I love how you people have these wild fantasys that will never come true. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Not necessarily. He would only use up about $10 million worth. If you take out a couple of our other free agents (mainly Rogers and his $4 million), we are still left with about $5-6 million. If Mo takes that and we give our exception to Anderson (he would get full Bird rights following next season). That is assuming we keep Williams. If another trade happened to move Williams, we get more flexibility. Beyond that, I think we all have to consider the possibility that we wouldn't use ALL our salary cap in the offseason with Dream gone. We might only use enough for Mo and Anderson leaving more to be available after 2002 when Williams and a couple others come off our cap as well. Just some things to think about. ------------------ The way to use life is to do nothing through acting, The way to use life is to do everything through being. - Lao-Tzu
Smeg, that would be so that Vancouver could get some value for Abdur-Rahim. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
The problem with Reeves is that he automatically removes all our cap space. That means no Webber, no Taylor and, most likely, no Anderson after this season. Also, he is dead weight - you CANNOT trade him. At least Cato has trade value. If he isn't performing, he is still a young, athletic defensive big man. Reeves is just young - sort of. I'm more interested in the cap room for flexibility than anything. The Rocks worked hard to get to this point and I'd had to see that disappear even if it meant getting Rahim. ------------------ The way to use life is to do nothing through acting, The way to use life is to do everything through being. - Lao-Tzu
