I know we all had our hopes that we could sign someone that could fill a need. Someone that could something better than someone that's currently in our rotation. But, it could be that there is no one out there that fits that description. So, now we just try to find someone that can fill out the end of the bench and could at least be of some help if someone in the rotation goes down. I would think a third string SF with either the ability to defend, or the ability to make three pointers would balance out the roster. If either Dekker or Ariza go down, we would be playing a lot of three guard lineups. I think depth at SF is a concern. I think Casspi would be a good choice. However, Scola was a favorite of mine, so It would be fun to see him in a Rockets uniform again.
Can he shoot 3s? Anyway, he is (was) a decent rebounder. Not much of a rim protector though, or much of a defender for that matter. I want him back mostly for sentimental reason. Rockets fans love Luis. He has that "never give up" mentality even when the game is out of reach.
Well if Corey Brewer can get playing time JUST off HUSTLE, then Scola can get 25 MPG here if just that... Scola doesnt fit a real need skill besides rebounding. Though for locker room presense he'd be nice to have. (Though he's not familiar with any current Rocket)
if you still have this many roster spots open next week, I say go ahead and sign him. Luis is a great locker room guy and can serve that role exclusively as a 15th man here. He could also transition into a front office role next season, which he has indicated he is interested in. Better having him here than have an empty roster spot
Scola can be a great adition. Bring leadership, champioship experience, is great in the locker room, good jumper. Plus: he loves to be a rocket!!!!
Scola started 76 games for TOR last year and shot 40% from 3pt line on 161 attempts. I watched him play some this year and he seems to move much like he always moved. He's never been a great athlete, but he's always been a damn good basketball player. He's tough and has decent size to help in the middle. He won't out jump anyone, but he will block out and get the defensive rebounds that seem to allude everyone but Bev and Harden. His low post game is still intact and now he's can stretch the floor. He's a positive, high energy vet who would be great on our bench and in the locker room. I may be wrong, but this seems like a no brainer for bench depth for a team with a chance in the play-offs. I would certainly rather have Scola vs BB on the team. Scola may not be what we want, but he could be that extra piece we need.
