I agree, and if this is ever going to happen, I believe it has it's greatest chance of occurring in an Obama administration.

C'mon - that's completely misleading and entirely counterproductive. Our total foreign aid budget is ridiculously small compared to our other expenses. Eliminating it entirely would not do anything relative to our current expenditure allotments and very well could have large scale effects in the world at large. When you're talking about something like 20 billion out of a 2+ TRILLION dollar budget, you can see this is a red herring of the first order.

Every bit helps....every bit that we spend proping up other governments is money taken away from schools & Roads etc.

You don't cut out foreign aid, but you need to let countries that can stand on their own....do that.

20 billion out of 2+ trillion. It makes no sense to claim, as you do, that somehow reallocating that money would 'refocus' our agenda on our own country. It's like saying your personal finances are a wreck because you gave a buck to a homeless person. Ridiculous.

A huge challenge of his is to get the public to do more at a time when most are getting and earning less (wrt their spending). People are less inclined to welfare or government inspired charity during recessions.
