Sounds good, but I don't think It's worth it If it means giving up a draft pick for him.
He's always hurt and if the Rockets can get Miller or Miles It might not be worth It. I like that Camby trade better.

I would trade the number 9 pick for Grant in a Heartbeat. He is in only his 6th year, and is a warrior.

He was hurt, but now is healthy, who are we going to get at number 9 that would strengthen us as much as Grant.

I take the silence as an affirmation.

i have read a few rumors that b. grant might opt out of his contact to become a FA. what i have read suggested that he might sign with LA for less money. i also read that the blazers might take a mid- first round pick for him. i would trade our pick for grant in a second. then we could go after croshere. that would be a solid team. good mix of experience and youth.

    I'm with DaDakota.

There are no guarantees with draft picks and Brian Grant is a very known quantity. BG is a great player and person. What team would not want him? Portland would be be crazy to give him up.

You can say that again Chickenhead!! [IMG]

Anyway, I love Grant. It is too bad Dunleavy only played him sparingly and often simply to foul Shaq. He is a better player than that. Rasheed played so well though, it may have been hard to spread the minutes at that slot.

I would love to have Brian Grant on this team and would deal the 9th pick for him without hesitation. I doubt Portland will go for it unless they really like Tsakalidis. They are on the cusp of going for a championship and would want to package Grant with Stoudamire to see what they can get to put them over the top. Since Payton could very well be available, I think they will try to go after him with a Grant/Stoudamire package.

There are a few reasons I would deal the 9th pick for Grant and not Camby. First off, Grant is the ideal type of "banger" this team needs that will do the dirty work inside. He has the legit bulk and size at 6-9 260 and gives 100% all the time. You wont see this guy float through games or dog it at all. He plays with so much heart and determination every minute he is out on the court, its sad to see him not get much PT behind Wallace.

Camby on the other hand, I like his talent and athleticism, but he is a stick at 225 pounds. I would take him for the right price in a deal not involving our pick but do not value him as highly as Grant. He has the tendency to float in games and does not give it 100% until the playoffs. When I saw him in the regular season and the playoffs, it was like I was watching two totally different players.

If Brian Grant came to this team, I think he could very well be a 12 RPG player with around 15 PPG or so. He is in the prime of his career and if the Rockets can land him, they would pretty much set themselves up for a playoff berth next season.

Bob Whitsitt is the best GM in the NBA and will not let Grant leave for nothing. Expect a sign and trade.

I would hope Grant has more integrity than to sign with the cheating Fakers. I agree with the rest of you though. I think he is much better than Camby. He is a better rebounder, has a better shot (did you see him draining the 20 footers this series), and also hustles more. IMO he is a perfect compliment for this team. I would not hesitate at all to deal the #9 for him. I'd also be willing to include another player in the deal as well, although just a minor one like Bryce Drew, etc.

Grant signing with the Lakers would be no different than Barkley signing with us. If I were him I would probably do that and spank my old team who wasn't playing me like they should have.

I would trade the #9 in a heartbeat for Camby (the Knicks would want more like a #5 for him, IMO), it is a close call for Grant (Camby has 2 years youth on Grant and the kind of length that keeps you effective a long time). I would probably trade the #9 for Grant and that might be the best deal Portland would get for him. I do think Portland will be forced to move Grant, it would be better for them if he was moved to us than signing as a FA with the Lakers. If Grant signed with the Lakers that would about doom us and the rest of the league for a couple of years.

As for the Blazers acquiring Payton, I think it is possible. But he is the best guard in the league, and I think Seattle would demand Stoudamire and Wallace (not Grant) to do that trade. I think Portland will be looking to move Stoud and Grant though, my hunch would be for Mutumbo (to start with Sabonis playing lower minutes, then sign a FA PG to compliment Anthony) OR maybe a first class PG like Bibby, Brandon, or Cassell (though not quite enough for a superstar PG like Payton, Kidd, Francis or Marbury).

Pilot, I disagree. If Portland's GM was so great than how can they have 2 1/2 times the salary cap in payroll and still not be able to get past the Fakers... [IMG] [IMG]Oh yeah , my bad they got Quitten. That explains it [IMG].

I would not consider Whitsitt better at evaluating talent than Rudy T.

I stand by my comment on Whitsitt being the NBA's best GM. Just look at where Portland was 5 years ago. Whitsitt also constructed the mid-90's Sonics team that won the third most games during the decade. If he would have remained in Seattle, I have a feeling that we would only have one championship here in Houston.

Did the sonics make it to the finals under his watch? Are you under the impression that we should put an * next to the Rockets because they did not beat the all mighty Sonics( didn't they lose to the 8th seed one year that they had the best record [IMG]) and the Bulls? Your love for a GM who has never gotten to the big one , let alone win one, seems a bit ill-adviced. I would never try to tell you who to like but Whitsitt is down in the score 2-0 with Rudy T. The Rockets under Rudy won 2.

I would love to get Grant, however I hate pssing up a lottery draft pick. I would look more at sending our lottery pick & one of our players (Drew, or Walt) for Grant and a #1 from them, even though it will be a low #1. I don't know how much use they would have with Walt with Pip & Smith, but they may be able to use Drew, especially if Sheed becomes their franchise next year.

    Dennis,

Whitsitt left Seattle right before they got really good. If he would of stayed in Seattle, I am confident that Houston would not of repeated as champions. Now Portland is just getting great so wait a couple of year before judging his Portland stint. Whitsitt is the best GM in the game today.

    Gee,

You think other GM's would like to work under the spending constraints of Paul Allen?

Is that all Trader Bob can say wait ..wait..wait

Rudy can say more than that.

I would venture a guess that Houston will be back in the finals before Portland. If Les Alexander spent money like Mr. Allen, Rudy would be winning championships every year.

No way. Portland will dump their garbage and reload this year like they did last year. Do you even know what year Whitsitt left Seattle? From your posts it doesn't sound like you do.
