I just read a post on the Rockets message board on ESPN with a Heat fan talking about trading Grant to Houston. It was just speculation, but it seems as though a deal between us and the Heat involving Grant could be worked out. We need a hustler down low, who can rebound and not be totally inept offensively and the Heat want to dump his salary. Grant certainly wouldn't be the best center in the league, but he's an upgrade over Cato. I could see Grant as being a Mo T with rebounding. He has a good midrange jumper and some post up skills, he's a hustler and banger down low, he's a solid rebounder, and he can make free throws. What do y'all think about Grant coming here and filling the need at center as best as he can (or anyone can that we could possibly get at this point for that matter)? This is assuming that we would trade mainly guys late in their contracts as a dump move by them (no trading 1st rounders or SF, CM, or EG).

Grant has a huge contract, would be really undersized for center, and has a sub-par year...I'll pass.

A couple of years ago I would have said yes, but now, it is not worth it, unless we can unload Mo Taylor.

Grant seems to play at the level around him. I think if Houston were a good team, he would play well for us. There is a good chance that could happen as early as next year, so I would trade MoT (or Kenny) for him.

I would rather see Houston pick up Marshall or Clark, and if Grant stood in the way, i'd change my tune

Grant's year is subpar because he's playing alongside Zo for the entire year. Although Mourning isn't 100%, he's still Mourning, and eats up the low block.

Miami wants and needs to unload Jones or Grant. We could use the real power forward. Maybe Glen Rice and Kt would do it.

    But...

We still have Mo-T, and Grant makes about $10,000,000 per year. So I don't see it.

I believe one of the first threads I ever replied to was in reponse to trade rumors (or just wishlists) of Grant coming to houston. I was blasted then for calling him a bum, and Ill guess ill take some more heat now cause my feelings have not changed. No trades for ze bum

    Nice Call!

Miami trades: PF Brian Grant (9.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.9 apg in 31.2 minutes)
Miami receives: SF Glen Rice (8.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.6 apg in 30.3 minutes)
PF Kenny Thomas (14.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 35.0 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +13.7 ppg, +1.7 rpg, and +1.6 apg.
Houston trades: SF Glen Rice (8.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.6 apg in 30.3 minutes)

Houston receives: PF Brian Grant (9.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.9 apg in 62 games)
Change in team outlook: -13.7 ppg, -1.7 rpg, and -1.6 apg.
    TRADE ACCEPTED

But is Grant at 10mil any worse than Rice at like 8mil? Grant's contract has 5 more years remaining--he should be productive those years (it will end when he is 35), and we would be under no obligation to resign him because he would have been fully paid. The Rockets pair has 2 years remaining each--that should entice Miami.

Overall, this deal favors Miami with the short contract for Rice plus I think KT would be solid fixture in the East. I think I would want some kind of additional pick compensation to do the deal--no less than lottery protected #1 or couple of #2s, or maybe an unconditional number 1.

Lots of other possibilities work as well, namaely: Mo + Walt, Mooch or Willis. Mo has a 5 year deal as with Grant but is 4 years younger.

Interesting possibilities for improving our defense.

I'sn't he only around 6'8? That's pf material unless we can make him into a Ben Wallace type but that's doubtful. If you look at all the truly contending teams, they all have true centers (or at least large ones). It would upgrade our team somewhat to pick him up but there is virtually no chance of the addition of Grant at center helping us get to the next level. If Grant were over 6'11 I would say go for it.

    Lets see:

    - We already have a glut at the 4.
    - Grant is too undersized to play center.
    - Grant would be our highest paid player.
    - We would trade KT, who probaby is better then Grant.

    I think I'll pass.

That is unless they want Cato and Moochie. ;) Cato is playing better, but we need to dump some contracts.

KT is probably better than Grant--he certainly is more valuable at his age and contract. But Mo is probably a better offensive player than KT, Grant is a better defensive player than KT, and EG should be better than any of these guys on both ends shortly.

To get rid of Rice and for an extra #1 pick, I would consider KT for Rice. What I am considering has a lot more to than just the fact KT is more valuable than Grant. I am thinking of eliminanting redundancy, multiple forwards, and picking up a solid future draft pick. If Miami wouldn't with a 1st rounder to make it happen I would say forget it--it gets more tempting with the pick though.

Could we have Jones instead? He would be great as our small forward as he is a good defender and he can shoot. We have a glut at PF anyway.

Grant's playing in the east where the competition is nul and he still doens't play very well. Now he's supposed to come to the west and actually play well. No way.

Jones is rather small to play the 3, but I still wouldnt mind him. That boy can play some serious defense.
