Biggio is 1 RBI short of passing Cruz and being in sole possession of 2nd place in Houston RBI history.

DAMN....Sheets is so good against us......what gives?!

Backe has got professional stuff. I could see him being the 3rd pitcher that Lidge was last year for the stros.

    Backe- 7th
    Lidge- 8th
    Dotel- 9th

wow... strikes out the side on 9 pitches...

Hell... with the way he's looking, and the fact that he has THREE quality major league pitches... why not put him in the running for future starter?

Of course, its always a plus to have a guy in the bullpen who throws strikes.

Backe's got great stuff. I just gotta repost that. 8th inning. Gets all 3 batters out on 9 pitches. Great break to his slider and curve, good low to mid 90s fastball, and from the looks of it, pretty good control with his pitches. Looks like a starter out there with all the variety in his pitches to throw.

I'll take an offensive slump once every 5 days... especially if they follow up this game with 4 just like the last one we got shut down in.

THis game started up with so much promise.

Redding gave up 3 runs in the first, but Biggio began the night for the Astros with a HR.

oh well....1 more strike and this crappy game is over.

The Astros are now 1-3 at home. :(

The first home game is always the toughest after a long (successful) road trip... even in basketball.

Its the most prone for letdown.... or the once rare game where we didn't hit, pitch, or play defense well.

Actually, I take that back... our bullpen was lights out again... at least a potential "weakness" going into this season is looking stronger and stronger each game.

Our bullpen was fantastic tonight, but Redding tanked this one for us.

    His ERA is now 6.00

......I still can't believe our knuckle baller has a 56.00 ERA ......unreal.

What's the status of Carlos Hernandez?

Has he done well at all in AAA? Is he healthy?

Threw 5 shutout innings in his first start. He's scheduled to pitch either tonight or tommorow for his second.

Gerry, however, says his velocity isn't up to where they want it to be to warrant a call-up. He'll get there though... he has to build up that arm strength.

DAMN! Backe struck out the side!? He didn't just strike them out but in NINE pitches too!? ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME!?!? WOW:eek: I've barely seen the guy, but I had the impression that he sucked...not so much now, haha.

Redding will be fine. New season, same s**** run support. If he still has a 6.00 era after around 5 starts, okay then get rid of him. I refuse to think he should be replaced though.

redding is a quality pitcher and certainly way way better than the standard #5 guy. actually he's probably the best. he certainly has yet to pitch his top game but if he pitched in any one of those st' louis games he'd have a W. just a tough spot for him now.
