UPS to drop 15,000 spouses from insurance, cites Obamacare

Umm why boycott again? It's not as if they are the only company cutting employees or their hours due to Obamacare. People are just playing by the rules of Obamacare.

So the people getting cut from UPS are still getting insurance, just somewhere else? (please not the part that I bolded)

So, I'm not sure exactly why someone would boycott because of a change in insurance.

How did Obamacare cause this again. Obamacare did not cause the price of insurance to go up for UPS. They are just saving themselves some money.

Actually, it probably did. But that isn't why this is happening.

So basically, companies have been shrinking coverage for a long time, but now they can just blame Obamacare instead of saying "hey, we're just trying to cut costs". Instead of trying to point to silly anecdotes, why not find a study somewhere that shows the overall pace of cutting benefits has increased specifically for 2014, which would more directly tie to Obamacare?

Then boycott them - that's certainly your right in a free market.

BS thread. This is a common practice that companies have been using for years. Often times it ends up being a cost cutting move for all parties envolved.

That's because the USPS loses money when they do that. UPS tries to actually run a profitable business. If the USPS could then they would significantly raise stamp prices to move envelopes around.

Health providers and companies changed plans long before the Affordable Care Act. My insurance changed because my employer changed it. This isn't something different, and these people won't be booted from having insurance.

the difference is UPS specifically cited ACA as a reason for dropping coverage

That's their right. The important thing is that the spouses still have other options for insurance, because of ACA.

Would you prefer a scenario where UPS could drop coverage of spouses without them being able to find insurance elsewhere, or do want the government to require that UPS not drop their coverage of the spouses?

The USPS can't move it across the country for less than a dollar. If it could, it wouldn't be struggling so much.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Congress has rather significantly tied the USPS' hands.

15k sounds like a little tiny bit. I'm not hearing the whole nor did I read the full article but as an employee for ten years they wouldn't dare touch the part time employees. That is the hardest motha****ing job in the world. These 15k spouses sound like they are from the top of the food chain which I don't ****ing mind cause they can afford it. Once you're a full time employee the pay rate triples.
