I almost started a thread on this earlier. It was one of the worst decisions I've seen. It's crap like this that makes boxing look bad. Williams is done.
Why were y'all even watching that fight? The brandon rios fight on Showtime was nonstop action for three rounds! It was great.
I watch the replay of Paul Williams' fight and the three judges who scored the fight are dumber or more worst than the 12 jurors in the Casey Anthony trial.
I thought Williams lost, but I had it much closer then what the commentators had it. Either way, he didnt deserve the win.
I really hope he retires. He's taken a lot of big shots and they've clearly taken their toll. It was comical listening to Roy Jones pleading for him to hang them up though. I was hoping Max was going to call him on it
Much closer? How did you score it? I could only find 4 rounds max to give Paul and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt
That's a good scorecard. He definitely won more than a round.4 and 5 were clean for PWill. I think any card giving him 3 or 4 rounds is accurate. It just depends on who you gave the 12th
Just caght the replay of the fight, I guess I can see why everyone thought it was the wrong decision, but I didn't think it was nearly as much of a dominating performance as the commentators and some of y'all are saying. Personally, I ended up having it a draw, although I gave almost all of the swing rounds to Williams, and I could understand people giving those rounds to Lara. I gave Williams rounds 3, 4, 5, 10, 12, and one other round, but I can't remember which one it was, but it was one where Lara controlled early but it was all Williams the last minute and a half of the round. I will say that I don't understand how the judges found more rounds than that to give Williams, really. Pretty much all the rounds I gave Lara I thought he won pretty much outright. But I think the commentators swayed peoples views on this fight a ton. From the 6th round on, the only thing they talked about was Williams getting hit with left hands. Literally. It was 30 straight minutes of all three commentators ranting about Lara landing a few clean left hands. But while he did land a bunch of flush lefts, a bunch of them didn't seem to hurt Williams at all. All the while, Williams was throwing a ton, and despite missing an absurd amount of punches, he landed just as many power punches as Lara, but the announcers just ignored all of that. They hit each other a pretty even amount of times and neither one really looked hurt throughout the fight, and Williams was clearly the agressor. I wouldn't have given the decision to Williams, but I also don't think that Lara clearly won more than 6 rounds. You could definitely give him more rounds than that, but those rounds were atleast close and debatable, IMO.
This is the first boxing match I've ever watched (outside of fake ones like Rocky). Are they all that boring? God, two men beating the crap out of each seems like it would be a hell of a lot more entertaining than it was...
Lol wait til you see a MMA fight. Out of all the boxing matches you could have watched for the first time, this one doesn't even sniff the list.
