I am personally against the UFC for several reasons. I do not think it s fair you can choke someone. It is kind of like Dirk, chicken chit. The better man doesn't always win in the UFC. Never been a fan of martial arts type stuff anyways. There is nothing quite like a good scraping with the gloves on with no choking and kicking.
At this point I'd say UFC. Right now, it's just more entertaining, bottom line. There's still skill involved, a very competitive nature, and some very good personalities. Tonight I heard more 'mainstream' coverage of a UFC event than I ever had before. I laugh at how it was pretty much scoffed at by the sports media back in the day.
I picked the UFC because it's something new and can be improved. But I do think it's tedious when rounds devolve into grappling matches. Maybe I'm just a hedonist waiting to see some blood...
UFC. The unpredictable nature is getting to be the best part of this sport. I also like to watch how a good grappler tries to win against a good striker and vice versa. There's a type of match for everybody... fans of striking, grappling, knockout artists, kickboxers, BJJ, etc. It's all in there. I haven't followed boxing in forever, but after watching MMA for a few years, I don't think I'll ever want to go back to following it again.
UFC fighters win because they get lucky, like someone mentioned earlier, the better fighter doesn't always win.
Why is choking someone chicken ****, but punching them is fine? Beyond that, why is it unfair? It isn't like only one of the fighters is allowed to use chokes. The better boxer doesn't always win either. Just ask Roy Jones Jr. Beyond the shady judging, there are the accidental headbutts, the lucky punches, the cuts, etc. Let's not pretend that a boxing match is a perfect measure of who is the better boxer.
I think if pro boxers fought with 1 oz gloves nobody would even know waht hte UFC was - of course there would also be a lot more deaths in the ring.
Ehh..dont know about that. UFC has a styles of fighting, which is why a lot of people like UFC more than the traditional stand up and fight boxing. I would think even if boxing had lighter gloves people would still watch UFC over boxing.
While some fans who have been around the block will watch for grappling and submissions, at heart most people watch fights for highlight reel knockouts. Putting 1 oz gloves on boxers makes this a lot more likely (and unsafe).
If that is the case, instead of 1 oz. gloves, give them brass knuckles. There will be knockouts galore.
I would say it is less about luck and more about preventing mistakes while you are fighting. Boxing is more about who has the most fluid between their brain and the inside of their skull.
