Did anyone else catch this fight? It was a real good fight. Clazaghe is real good. I think he should beat hopkins.
I'd like to see him fight Hopkins but I think Calzaghe wins. Calzaghe is a beast and just keeps coming. He took some bombs from Kessler but didn't look phased by any of them. I don't think Hopkins can hurt him either so I'd expect Calzaghe to just keep coming and backing up Hopkins and winning a decision. I wonder if they would fight overseas since Calzaghe isn't a huge draw over here, and Hopkins is what 42 now and not a big ppv seller like DLH? Probably make more money over there than it would here.
I dont think they'll fight overseas. why should hopkins go there? calzaghe has gotta suck it up and fight outside of wales. didnt they want to fight at Yankee Stadium? I still think Hopkins will win, since he's a defensive genius. He might not be fun to watch, but he's a damn good counter puncher, and you know he'll come in shape and ready to fight. Bhop will give Calzaghe his first REAL challenge, even at 43 or however old he is
I think kessler fought well against Joe. He got some good shots against him, and I don't see how hopkins can do better.
Hopkins right now is not going to beat Calzaghe. Calzaghe is too active and throws too many punches in the ring. Hopkins may have one or two good rounds, but he is not going to be able to keep up the necessary to beat Calzaghe in a 12-round bout. If Hopkins fights again, his logical choice is to beat RJJ. It will be a big fight, and that will add another big name to his list, not that he needs it.
hopkins is good at getting guys off their game. if bhop makes calzaghe fight at his pace, he'll be able to win the fight. Hell, he barely lost to 24 year old Jermain Taylor, cuz he made taylor fight at his pace. RJ is fighting Trinidad. A logical fight for Bhop would be Calzaghe. He's been accused of ducking him for years, cuz he didnt want to fight in Wales <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EMLgVtZgtU0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EMLgVtZgtU0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
As far as Hopkins skills, true, he is a defensive genius, but that's all he's fought the last few fights, other defensive counter puncher types. (Winky, Taylor x 2). Calzaghe's a bulldog and will be all over Hopkins from the 1st round. He threw over 1000 punches last night against a guy with proven power and he just went after him. You are right though, the fight will most likely be held in the US if/when they fight, but I wouldn't be suprised if he wants to stay at home, he is the champ. You think his people believe they can win a decision in Vegas against a Golden Boy fighter/partner? A fight at the Garden would be nice.
just saw your most recet post.......you are absolutely right about the pace. If BHop makes Calzaghe fight BHops fight, the it will boring, sloppy, and BHop gets the win. I hope they get it on, it will be fun to watch. I'm not a big fan of either, I just like boxing in general. Although I do hold a slight grudge against Hopkins for his last few boring fights, but he did destroy Tito Trinidad so he'll always have a special place in my heart.
hahahaha. yeah his fights have been boring, but then again you gotta realize he's smart for that. his slow fights are definitely the reason for his longevity. he avoids brawls and big punches. calzaghe would be the favorite, but i wouldnt count hopkins out. it also depends on the weight they fight at. if hopkins has to come down to super middleweight, it would be a huge advantage for joe calzaghe. i'm only a hopkins fan cuz i met the guy at a mall in Philadelphia. he's a real cool guy. he actually talked to me for a good 5 to 10 minutes. one of the nicest celebrities i've ever met. i respect him for turning his life around.
