Great effort last night, BUT why is Ryan Bowen still here and Scott Padgett is gone? Who do you think would be helping the team more right now?
I've been carping about this since the Rockets made it clear Padgett wouldn't be coming back. Mistake.
You know, I kinda like him. He's like the Rockets version of Edwardo Najera, Mad Dog Madsen and guys like that. You know, that hustle guy who looks totally lost on the court but somehow gets the job done and the other team scratches their head and wonders how they just got blocked or outrebounded by some goofy looking white dude named Bowen.
I like Bowens energy and hustle, I just wish there was a way we could sub him everytime we come back on offense
I'm sorry but as much as I like his energy and hustle Bowen does not belong in the regular rotation of any NBA team. On most teams he would be on the bench if not the IR. His inability to hit a wide open shot really hurts this team on offense.
I'm sorry, you can find any person to run around and "hussle." Are you telling me that they can't find ONE person that hussles AND can shoot a decent jumpshot? Really?? :\ we are playing 4 on 5 when the ball is in our possession. maybe 4.5 if he can get a hold of an o-rebound.
It's insane to me that Bowen could start taking heat. No, he can't shoot, but it isn't for lack of effort. If you're going to hate a player, hate one that doesn't give you everything he has every single time he steps on to the floor.
I would rather have the extra couple possessions Bowen gets us than Padgett 4.4 ppg. Plus, Bowen is SOOOO much more exciting to watch RR
He's not as good as Najera, but the Madsen comparison is very accurate. Check out John Hollinger's stats at ESPN. Neither Bowen nor Madsen contribute a lot to their teams, despite their flailing around. If they run around enough, they're bound to run into a few loose balls or rebounds, but less than you would think. Both are blackholes on offense and neither compensates by being a lockdown defender. Don't get fooled. Like Bill Walton says, never mistake activity for productivity. Padgett is the better player overall. Nevertheless, it wouldn't matter if we had Otis Thorpe, Robert Horry, or Mario Elie out there without TMac and Yao.
Bowen can't shoot...true...but he is a decent defender, defends 3's and 4's, grabs offensive rebounds, gets steals, and hustles. It's contagious. All Padgett did was shoot 3's...and he was extremely streaky. I like Bowen, and we have no other choice with our injurues. F*** Padgett
I really don't know how Bowen is in the NBA. I understand his role and all. But how exactly did he get into the league? Somebody had to see some talent. Hustle has been what kept him in. But how did he get in? I mean he is by far the least talented player I've ever seen on an NBA court. . Hustle is great and all but there are tons of guys that go undrafted that are dying to get into the league that will give you the same amount of effort. And they might be able to hit the rim on an open jumper every once in a while.
Toast, THis is where I think the lack of creativity on the part of JVG hurts us. I mean, yes, you are correct, we are short-handed on big men. But why not try playing Yao and Deke simulatneously? The paint is arguably well protected and challenge the opposing team to beat you on the perimeter? Or why not play Stro and JHo together too? I mean, JVG seems to have no qualms playing someone like T-Mac 40 minutes a game, surely STro can be pushed that hard too? Now I remember the logic of having Bowen start being something like "we need energy from the outset." While Bowen does bring energy, that's really a department best addressed by a more energetic point guard... and without going too far off topic, I still think allt he problems - chemistry, energy, hustle, attitude - rests back with the fact that without Bobby we don't have a good point guard. theSAGE
The question should be Padgett or Swift. Padge didn't leave because of Bowen, he left because he knew Swift would be getting all his minutes. Padge wanted and arguably deserved to be a regular rotation player. Bringing in Swift made that impossible. That's why he tried to go to the Suns, and why JVG helped him get the gig with the Nets. The organization was going in a direction that didn't help Padge's career, and both JVG and Padge recognized that.
i was thinking the same thing last year, but having seen najera play up here in dallas for a few years he didn't seem to be as lost on the court as bowen does, or as much as madsen for that matter. plus looking at the stats, ed is clearly the better player. and i know with that players like these, stats aren't what's important, but najera is the more productive of the group. najera - PPG 6.3 | RPG 5.8 | BPG 0.6 | APG 0.9 bowen - PPG 2 | RPG 1.8 | | BPG 0.1 | APG 0.4 madsen - PPG 1.2 | RPG 2.4 | BPG 0.2 | APG 0.1
