I suppose this could be better suited in the NBA Forum, and if it's moved I'll understand, but as my question relates directly to the Rockets game tonight, I was hoping it would be ok here...

As some of you know, I live in Toronto, and am a fan of both the Rockets, going way back, and the Raptors since their inception. And as the NBA has shown that you need 2 stars to be a legit contender, since McGrady left town, the raps have been in that unfortunate circumstance of having one star good enough to keep you from drafting low enough to get another, but not good enough to get much better...what I call the Dominique Curse.

However Carter's injury problem sort of solved that, although I was dissapointed that, like every other year since their inception, the Raps 'slipped' in the lottery, they have come out of it with a player about whom I am very, very excited; Chris Bosh.

Since T-Mac left, the player whom I felt Carter would mesh with the nest in the league has been Garnett, as they really compliment each other, as was evidenced at the Olympics, and Bosh is the closest thing I've seen to Garnett as a rookie since Garnett himself. DoD gave me great scouting reviews of Bosh during the summer league, for which I am still very gratefull, but nothing I have seen of Bosh in his rookie year has done anything but confirm my feelings that he's going to be great, and coaches rave about his attitude.

What I want to know is this...if you can get over the bitterness of tonight's game, could those of you who saw Bosh play tell me, objectively, what you think about his game and his future, considering that just over a year ago he was in high school, and it takes bigger guys longer to develop...Not so much what you thought of the game he played, but what you think of the game he has, based on what he showed you tonight.

The reason I ask is that I have become such a big fan that I can posibly lose objectivity, and around here people are drooling over him so much that I'd like 'outsider' opinions of his game as a 19 year old, and what you see his potential as, and who you see him developing like...Garnett as I do, others, or no one very similar...

    Thanks in advance.

From what I remember Eddie Griffin also had the potential to become a Garnett type player as he had only played one year of college, and that his outside range was also decent. (btw that bosh shot was nothing but luck)

I mean he seems pretty good, though this is the only game I saw him play. As for Bosh and Carter as a one 2 It somewhat reminds me of Payton and Kemp.

He certainly appears to have a lot of promise ... doesn't really look like a Garnett to me, more like a smoother, better shooting Marcus Camby. And like a young Camby, Bosh needs to eat some cheeseburgers in a bad way.

Not quite sure about him yet, coz teams aren't respecting his offensive game. So no tough defender on him.. But one thing for sure: Bosh's shooting touch is 10 times better than KG's.

To me, Eddie's athleticism always seemed overrated, at least in comparison with people like Garnett, who move so much more quickly and fluidly...Eddie's greatest gifts to me were that he had a high skill level with usually incompatible aspects; outside shooting/shotblocking, and good instincts as a rebounder, but not necessarily ythe dominant athleticism to smooth over the rough spots between these skills, or simply dominate as an athlete like a Garnett can.

I think Bosh does have that kind of athleticism, and like Garnett, and unlike Eddie, is said to be a manic worker with an ideal attitude and maturity.

No doubt....just listen to his post game comments, the guy is smart. Did Eddie ever accept an interview?

I think Chris Bosh is a better version of Marcus Camby wihout the fragile. Camby was pretty good when I first saw him play for the Raptors as a rookie. NOw I hated that guy. He could become KG but statistically it won't happen when VC is the main man.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm from TO but also follow the Rox. I think McGrady shouldn't consider retiring and just come back to TO! Too bad the Raptors could've been awesome with VC and TMac. :(

Tell you the truth, He most really truly reminds me of this one guy named Kwame Brown. ;)

One thing about the Camby comparisons...while it's unfair to compare a 1 year player to a 4 year senior/NCAA Player of the Year, I don't see Bosh having quite the same defensive instincts Camby had, although I suppose it could just be teaching/experience. Camby was a really exceptional help defender, and while Bosh lead the ACC in blocks as a frosh, and leads all rookies this year, it doesn't seem quite as natural.

On the other hand, I think he's got 10 times the potential of Camby offensively. He already shoots much better, and is quicker with the ball. To me a Camby who is much better offensively and quicker IS Kevin Garnett. The difference it makes, as a pf kind of player, to be able to outquick your opponent if he plays up AND shoot from the outside if he doesn't play up, is night and day.

On a side note, lost somewhat in the LeBron/Carmelo hype has been the stellar early season play of both Bosh (#4) and Miami's Dwyane Wade (#5), who reminds me of an explosive Eric Snow. We've had a chance to see both of these guys in the last week and I think both are going to be pretty good pros.

Yeah...I don't usually go in for hype, but I gotta agree; this might easily go down as one of the best draft years ever...

    MacBeth,

He looked good, and he was rolling to the hole from the weakside off the ball, which means he understands the game.

I think the Raptors have a very good player in Bosh.

Cool. I respect your b-ball takes. Does he remind you of anyone?

He looks like a solid double-double guy from what I saw. But most players I haven't heard of tend to destroy the Rockets on a regular basis.

Still, he looks solid. I'll have to pay more attention to the Raptors and follow his progress.

Please do, and let me know what you think, although I am confused about whether or not your Dark Clouds aspect applies to other teams as well as the Rockets...:D

Hard to say after only one game, though I will be checking out the Raptors on league pass more often to see how he is doing.

He really plays heady ball.....rolls to the hole, sets a good pick, and moves to open space very well....seems really sharp.

I wish we had him.....you know, he reminds me of Rashard Lewis a bit.

Bosh was clearly the best player on the floor today and he was the difference. When the Raptors went to him he produced and when they did not go to him he covered their mistakes and made something positive happen. If not for Bosh we win this game by 5+ points with out an overtime.

He certainly did not play like a 19 year old kid. I think it is too hard to tell at this stage if this was just a great one game performance of if this is what the NBA can expect from him on a consistant basis. If its the later then he is going to be a stud or if its the former he could be just another athletic big man that dissapears some games and looks dominant in others.

After watching him once, I love him! He will be pretty good..he is already one of my favorite players now. I like how he is so calm and he is from Texas! He is only 19 years old..and he can shoot! He has a good shot. He is athletic..but he is kinda skinny. I think he will be good and I wish he was on the Rockets.
