Hey, what do you guys think of Calvin Booth? He was the dealbreaker in the Juwan Howard trade, wasn't he? If he puts out a few more performances like in today's 4th quarter comeback to finish the Jazz, Dallas will probably not let him go, but I'd be interested in acquiring him to back up Hakeem. It seems like he'll be a free agent after this season. It would make Cato expendable. Booth averages two blocks a game in 20 minutes, and seems like a player who hustles. What do you think? Worth a couple million? ------------------
Calvin Booth is a fine player. I've kept tabs on him even before he went to Dallas, he has shown to be a good player, even back to his days on Maryland. I would definitely like to have him on the Rockets. He could develop into a quality center who would fit the Rockets well. ------------------ See the three, be the three.
Booth went to Penn State, not Maryland... They had a different Booth, Keith I think at Maryland... ------------------ "Awesome baby!" Dick Vitale
Breaking news - Calvin Booth was just spotted riding down Utah in his new 2002 Mclaren. ( You know he is going to get something from CUBAN ) Maybe a house, car, CONTRACT. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Actually you're right kidrock. I don't know why I said Maryland, I was actually thinking about a game between Penn State and Indiana I saw on, I believe, national television. I think it was Indiana, or Northwestern, I can't remember which. My mistake. And I know the other Booth you're talking about from Maryland. He was a disappointment. ------------------ See the three, be the three.
From what I know, Nellie loves Booth, so no chance of him coming here... ------------------ My company declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, then agreed to merge with another company, which also declared for Chapter 11 bankruptcy... should I be worried?

I don't know that we actually need REASONS Cato is expendable at this point... ------------------ Jazzkiller
I don't know much about booth much after his two swats and THE BUCKET I knew someone would lok at him as a rocket I would hope [and some did not disappoint] that folx had some previous knowledge of his game before now. . . CAUSE IT WAS THIS TYPE OF THING THAT GOT THAT LAZY BUM CATO A 42 MIL CONTRACT THAT WE CANNOT MOVE!!! Rocket River ------------------
I don't think a comparison to Cato in any form or fashion is fair to Booth. I hope Booth doesn't read this board! Booth stepped up big for the Wizards when Jahidi White went down with an injury. He showed he could play, and when White came back, they kept Booth in the lineup. I think Dallas got a decent player in Booth. He does have a propensity to get into foul trouble, but he is steady, and a fairly adept rebounder. Plus, he hit the game winner to seal the deal against the Jazz. If he never hots another bucket in his life, he is OK by me! ------------------ My doctor says I am bipolar. I am going to get a second opinion. I have never had intimate desires for polar bears. I wouldn't get too excited about Booth at this point. He was used, abused and generally b*tch-slapped into submission by the Spurs the other day... ------------------
Rocket River, I do realize that this is just speculation on my part. If I'd really done my homework, I wouldn't be asking you guys what you think, I'd really be pushing a course of action. I agree too many people are swayed by a few good minutes of gameplay, and I won't say this isn't the case. I read up on some praise of Booth and decided to look up his stats. However, your Cato comparison is unjustified because we signed Cato to a significant multi-year contract thinking he could be our starter. I'm talking about a backup center and one, two million. Personally, I think it's important to look at options for the 5, because if we can't get Hakeem back, all we have are Cato and Collier. If we're serious about getting rid of Cato, we need to consider options at center to replace him. ------------------
I say we can easily pick someone from the draft who is better. ------------------ "I would like to live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were ever supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever." -Miss Alabama in the 1994 Miss Universe contest
Booth would be a good addition, and I would personally target him if we have any reservations about resigning Hakeem, but he would do little to answer our need for someone who can be counted on to score in the paint. I see Booth as a cost-effective answer at the 5 until we can get a better one. I would love to see Booth displace Cato from our roster and banish that young man into NBA history. ------------------
Of players in the league with under 1800 minutes logged for last season the 4 top producers were Nazr Mohammed, Hakeem, Sabonis, and Calvin Booth (in that order). ------------------
