[Book] The Hunger Games

I have read the entire series.

I liked it, but didnt know it is apparently the next twilight/harry potter. There is a pretty big following of teens that like it and a movie is coming out soon.

I will still see the movie though.

 

Such a great opening.

Such an impressive follow up.

Such an absolute turd for the final book that ruined the entire series.

It really is like having a fantastic 5 course meal with the absolute perfect wine pairings only to have them bring a steaming pile of crap for dessert.

 

Im in high school and can not stand to read....but the Hunger Games was great

 

I read the series a while back and enjoyed it well enough to get all the readers in the family to read them.

I also did not enjoy the ending though.

 

Excellent summation. I wish I'd stopped reading after the first book. The world Collins created was very intriguing and I wanted to know the fates of the other districts. It just seemed Collins wrote a great survival story and expanded it to become a revolutionary epic when the first book sold so well.

 

It will leave a nasty taste in my mouth because of all the teen fanaticism.

 

Weird. I just started reading it last week because my family all loves it and there's a movie coming out.

I guess I'm the only person who doesn't find the first 2 books to be great? I'm about a quarter through the final book. (I'm a pretty fast reader I guess)

I think the story is reasonable, but there are too many details that I just can't seem to suspend my disbelief on. There's a plausibility threshold that a book has to have for me, and for too many reasons I can't seem to buy into it.

 

Yeah. Different strokes, different folks. Authors won't be able to satisfy everyone all the time

Ok. I just finished the last book last night.

Having now read them, my honest reaction is that they were pretty much about as good as Twilight, maybe slightly better and targeted towards a similar young adult audience. The first story itself was fairly enjoyable, and the second was a reasonable rehash of the same formula, but for me there was just too little attention to detail in the world/geography/people/etc to stomach. I like for the backdrop to be fleshed out enough so that I can appropriately suspend my disbelief and genuinely accept that the things I’m reading could have actually occurred. Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn, Elantris, Wheel of Time) and David Weber (Honor Harrington), for example, excel at this.

And while for the most part, the kinds of details I found the most lacking weren’t necessarily central to the story, the haphazard manner in which they were callously ignored was grating to the point of becoming a major distraction for me. It just felt juvenile. (which is weird to say when you juxtapose that on top of all the violence, etc) Add in the fact that the last book was pretty terrible, and the whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. So overall, readable I guess, but certainly not a must read.

 

This is sadly a big ripoff from the Japanese novel Battle Royale.

 

i somehow skipped book 1 but after i watch the movie I went straight into book 2 & 3 (half way done with book 3).

 

Yes, but each books ending was lacking....good premise though.

Liked the series, although finished it way too quickly for my liking. Also was not a fan of the ending for the last book.

 

I loved the series.

I watched the movie, and then had the need to know what was going to happen, so I bought all the books and read them. I took my time with the first one, but read the next 2 pretty fast. Everyone I know has stayed up until 2am reading those books even with work the next day. They are addicting.

The final book is frusturating at times and was rushed at the end, but it was still mostly good.

I don't read much. I think it was the first book I read since the last HP book.

 

I actually liked how the trilogy ended. I wasn't crazy about how there were so many loose ends towards the end of Mockingjay that weren't given enough time to be cleaned up, but I do like the actual ending. I thought it was pretty damn bold to end a YA series that way.

 

I was a little disappointed in the ending. I don't read that much so I guess it's hard to compare to a movie where you can see a big ending unfold. I don't like how the war ended and the relationships with the 3 main characters ended (trying to save spoilers)

However, I think the movies they can make from the last 2 books have the potential to be awesome.

 

The last book was just too different from the other two books. Didn't help that it wasn't very good, either.
