I actually think the Bonz would have helped us in the playoffs. He a decent rebounding guard and he takes it to the hole. We didn't have anyone who did that very well did we with the exception of Carl Landry.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Morey knew that Head would be sucking in the playoffs again, I think he'd take back his "We need more help in the backup PG department, rather than the backup swingman department". I wouldn't mind having him again. He was fantastic when he played for us, he had his down games, but he showed a lot during the streak and beginning of the year, he was slashing A LOT more than previously. A lot of people forgot he had crap load of dunks driving down the lane and on Sportscenter, hell more than Tmac during that same timespan. Look at his stats Season Log when he played for Tmac when he was out, he averaged nearly 11 pts/5 rebounds a game with a few 20 pt games in the first 3 months of the season I'm a supporter of him coming back, but wouldn't cry a river that he won't
I watched a lot of highlight videos from the past season and it was surprising the # of plays Bonzi made. Some were when McGrady was out and he got more touches, but I didnt see all the past "Bouncy Whales" stuff (they dont show defense in highlights though). He didnt complain about his role this year and seemingly wasnt a cancer to the team. Understandably and deservedly he is still getting heat for last year under Van Gundy. Still, Bonzi's weak areas just seemed to magnify the team's weak areas even more (if you slash to the hoop make your layups & free throws, since you can't already hit the jump shot). He created shot opportunities but if he's not making much of anything whats it matter? Wished it would have been better for him and the Rockets, but at this point its better to go another direction.
I'd do it for the minimum. It's basically free - which means it's easy to cut him if he becomes a headache. When other teams don't have a scoring swingman, Battier is useless. Bonzi would be useful in those situations. I know we could've used some points and rebounds against the Jazz, especially when Rafer was out. At the minimum, it's a risk worth taking. Plus he is familiar with the coach and team. I would definitely do it.
The answer is easy, no. Bonzi will of course choose money right now. And I am sure he doesn't want to play in Houston, cause we traded him
My venom for Bonzi isn't as strong this offseason as it was last, because he did actually try occasionally for the Rockets this past season. He sucked more often than he was productive, and he hurt the team three times more often than he helped the team, but he did try. So, this year, I will politely ask that Bonzi Wells not be considered, rather than make horrible comments about his character.
This is true, I do like Kelenna. So that's two things we agree on. I was sad when he was cut after last preseason to keep other players (ie JL3 and Scott Padgett - even though I love Scott, I would have rather had Buike) Plus I just like to tease you cause I miss arguing with you in chat.
IMHO, it doesn't matter if it's Wells, Finley or any other vet min player. There just isn't roster space unless... * BJax + # 25 + filler are used as part of a larger trade and/or The Rockets don't take Novak's POpt Other than this, they just don't have roster flexibility that I can see.
Well, I when I posted this I had thought about T-Mac's sentiments about Bonzi and how much he liked playing with him and what he thought about the B-Jax trade for Mike James and Bonzi. I thought that T-Mac had some accurate things to say and who knows better Bonzi than their own teammate? T-Mac Misses Vote In Rockets' Front Office Written by Steve Weinman Thursday, 21 February 2008 Or perhaps he wasn't given a vote in the first place, since, you know, he is a player and all. One way or the other, Tracy McGrady isn't thrilled regarding the Rockets' new acquisition of Bobby Jackson -- or at least Jackson's price. The Rockets gave up point guard Mike James and swingman Bonzi Wells in exchange for the back-up point guard from New Orleans, and the departure of the long-troubled Wells in particular seems to have drawn T-Mac's ire. As per Steve Campbell's Sports Soup: "It's a sad day,'' Tracy McGrady said. So how does this help the team? "I don't know,'' McGrady said. "You never know. We'll see. I really don't have much to say about it. We'll see.'' "To lose Bonzi, that's pretty tough to lose,'' McGrady said. ``That's a lot. His ability to get us extra possessions on offense. Just his presence out there on the basketball court.'' http://www.celticsblog.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2455&Itemid=260
I disagree. Head will be dumped. Hayes may be traded if someone asks for him to be included in a trade. Novak can be let go for the right price. Bobby Jackson and the #25 will probably be gone as well IMO. You're right in that we have limited space, but I don't think it's true that we don't have flexibility.
Getting Bonzi back would be like getting back together with an ex-girlfriend you've already broken up with because you know you can't stand each other.
