buried at teh end of a long article on Bolton and Plame onFoxNews.com, is this tidbit: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,164013,00.html -- Bush has recently indicated his willingness to resort to a recess appointment, and earlier on Thursday FOX News learned that the appointment could happen as early as next week.
No surprise there. Bush has shown his willingness to circumvent the Constitution and the American people for nearly 6 years now.
Well maybe they can indict Bolton for the incorrect info he filled out on the form for the State Department. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050729.../bush_bolton_dc
recess appointments are not allowed under the constitution? and if i'm not mistaken, the american people elected GWB twice, so how is he circumventing their will with this (potential) appointment?
You are mistaken. Jr was elected once. The first time he was selected by the SC. I actually hope Jr does make the appointment. Then we'll see what happens when Bolton is indicted in the Plame affair.
not so, you need to re-read your recent history. any way you slice the florida returns, W won, as has been proven ad naseum in these pages. get over it.
From CNN.com BREAKING NEWS President Bush today to name John Bolton to be nation's U.N. ambassador through recess appointment, senior Bush administration official says. Details soon. Looks like it's a done deal.
[tangent]Actually, if you did the recount the way Bush wanted, Gore would have taken Florida.[/tangent]
July 29, 2005 The Honorable George W. Bush President of the United States The White House Washington, DC20500 Dear Mr. President: In light of the fact that John Bolton was not truthful to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the questionnaire he swore was truthful, we ask that you do not make a recess appointment of Mr. Bolton to be the Ambassador to the United Nations and instead submit a new nomination to the Senate. Mr. Bolton's excuse that he "didn't recall being interviewed by the State Department's Inspector General" is simply not believable. How can you forget an interview about an issue so important that the United States Senate unanimously passed an amendment stating that Congress supports "the thorough and expeditious investigation by the Inspector General of the Department of State and the Inspector General of the Central Intelligence Agency into the documents... that the President relied on to conclude that Iraq had attempted to obtain uranium from Africa"? The amendment was cosponsored by the Chairmen of both the Foreign Relations Committee and the Intelligence Committee. Mr. President, we know you are engaged in an effort to strengthen our relationships throughout the world. Sending someone to the United Nations who has not been confirmed by the United States Senate and now who has admitted to not being truthful on a document so important that it requires a sworn affidavit is going to set our efforts back in many ways. Sincerely, The US Senate Democrats
Well, I'm up in T.O. keepin' jive alive, And out on the corner it's half past five. But the subways are empty And so are the cafes. Except for the Farmer's Market And I still can hear him say: You're all just pissin' in the wind You don't know it but you are. And there ain't nothin' like a friend Who can tell you you're just pissin' in the wind. I never knew a man could tell so many lies He had a different story for every set of eyes How can he remember who he's talking to? Cause I know it ain't me, and hope it isn't you.
basso you really need to stop talking about our wonderful president like that... It's not very respectful.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth, Blowing down the backroads headin' south. Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth, You're an idiot, babe. It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.
Darkness, darkness Hide my yearning for the things that cannot be Keep my mind from constant turning Towards the thing that cannot see Thing that cannot see, Thing that cannot see.
It's not. It's a current sign of the Bush Administration testimony technique, patterned after Ronald Reagan.
Yep! Right after Condi's "I don't recall the memo" and Rove's "I don't remember where I heard her name."
Just to keep things in perspective Clinton made a recess of Bill Lan Lee after the Repub. Senate kept him bottle up in committee. Same rhetoric then about up and down votes and the perogative of the Senate except reverse the parties.
