Tonight the Cavs are playing the Hornets in Charlotte and the Hornets will be retiring Phills's Jersey. This is the first time the Hornets have retired a jersey. I disagree with the decision to retire his jersey. He was a good guy from what I have heard but he was not good enough to have his number retired. Basicly what the Hornets are doing is honoring a guy who was racing at 115mph (I think thats what it was) and died. Dont get me wrong I am saddened by his death but retiring the jersey is a little to much, I think. I like the way the Carolina Hurricanes did it after Steve Chaisson died in a one car wreck when he was driving drunk. They did not retire his jersey but they had a Steve Chaisson memorial night. ------------------ ~John~ JohnyRocket's Fan Site
I agree, totally, Johny Rocket. I also believe money makes some people crazy....they think they can do anything without repercussion.
It's not the fact of whether he was a good basketball person or not. It's the fact that he was a good person, period. He was a team leader and a community leader as well. Just because he died in a reckless way doesn't mean that his jersey doesn't deserve to be retired. The fact is that the players, citizens of Charlotte, and the management of the Hornets all loved the guy. That's why his jersey is being retired.
