I dont know if its just me or what, but this guy totally pissed me off in the play-offs. He dribbles too much and ALWAYS pump fakes when he has an open 3.....he loves to shoot the floater over the big boys I guess. His isnt fast enough to hang with most guards, as we all witnessed.

But with James' quickness, and the possibility of a trade/draft/FA, is Sura "trade-bait?" I mean if we draft a 4, and sign a 4, maybe a package including Sura and Howard for a swingman?

I know Sura rebounds extremly well for his size, but he really isnt a POINT...he is more like a 2 guard.

Maybe im just blowing his post-season performance way out of proportion.

    Any thoughts?

He played the playoffs with an injured knee, which is part of the reason why he couldn't keep up with opposing guards and was generally unimpressive. Why he wouldn't pass to Yao is something different though.

Sura never played as well as he did early in the season after he came back from the DL. He had several injuries that slowed him down and Van Gundy mentioned this during an interview on 610. He'll be back and playing strong again next season.

Mike James hogs the ball too much to be the starter. He would take away too many shots from Tmac and Yao. James is much better as spark plug off the bench that can provide instant offense.

Sura also spent time in the hospital during the playoffs getting re-hydrated while being sick as a dog.

Bob Sura was not supposed to even be playing out there, guys, I think some here are conveniently forgetting that. Not only is his knee f*ked up, but his back is equally screwed up right now. He is the Rocket most in need of an off season.

The guy played his heart out, he just wasn't in a good shape to do well, and despite that he played excellent in a game during the seris, and helped us win another one with his two back-to-back threes in Game 2.

As for the passing inside to Yao, Sura is not a sharp passer, he is not a PG, that is not his forte, the Rockets are playing him out of position, and you are expecting him to make the toughest pass in the NBA - the inside pass to Yao with a couple of defenders on him or a quicker guy guarding him, which would likely result in a turnover. I don't think Sura has the confidence necessary for him to make that inside pass to Yao. He is not only not a good passer, but I think he hesitates to pass inside to Yao because of fear of commiting a TO.

That is just my take, that is what I have noticed all season long.

Sura toughened it out the whole 2nd part of the season, I think he has shown that toughness that rubbed off on all his teammates, and I credit him for creating that warrior mentality among his teammates that made them refuse to stop playing because of injury - I think it rubbed off on McGrady and Yao and others. I absolutely admire what he did this season, and I think the intangibles he brought to this team were one of the key things that made this team perform the way it did during the season.

I think Sura's effectiveness/contributions to this team go way beyond the stats sheet.

My only problem with him was his inability to hit wide open layups. He just couldn't hit them for some reason - probably mental.

Other than that, he played up to skill level/health level.

Sura was huge in game 2. By games 6 and 7, his health wasn't allowing him to be effective.

He would be great off the bench for energy and toughness, but this year was forced to start, and did a great job for stretches of the season. In the regular season, the team excelled with him as the starter.

Overall, I like him as a player, and love his toughness. I think we just need a real PG, but I wouldn't want to lose Sura.

    Isn't he 34 now?

If that' s the case, i wouldn't count on a single offseason to heal him up and then come back with no injuries. The fact of the better is if you want to be serious championship contender, you better have some better talent than Bob Sura at one of your guard spots. On a championship team, a guy like Sura at this stage of his career should be nothing more than an 8th or 9th rotation guy at best.

He is a true point-guard though. Yes, he took some bad shots, but the guy is quick enough to basically get to the bucket at his own will. He can blow by anyone, anytime, something I think we should have seen more often.

Also, dont forget about Vassilis Spanoulis....this guy is being compared to Steve Nash, and is supposedly going to compete for a roster spot. Of the 3, Sura is the odd man out in my opinion.

you havent even seen the guy play yet. his style is compared to nash not his talent level. he is only supposed to compete for a roster spot, not become next years starter.

sura's inability to shoot the ball hurts. also he is not a good passer. however, his heart is important to the team. so i say for one more season (until a few guys catch his fire) we need him.

That doesn't make him a true PG. A true PG creates opportunities for others. Mike James creates opportunities for himself. When his shot is on, he does this very well. He is a weaker version of Bobby Jackson, which is still good, and is perfect coming off the bench.

It's possible Sura may be the odd man out, but who knows. If we can get a better SG and/or PG to start, I wouldn't be oppossed to losing one of Sura or Wesley or James if necessary to faciliatet that improvement or an improvement elsewhere (PF).

Sura wasn't healthy, he had a major impact on our season and added toughness and fight to this team when we needed it.

    Enough already.

I was a Sura sceptic when we acquired him, but now I am a true believer. We need Sura. He's grit and glue. Get healthy, Bob.

HAHA....I have always been a Rockets fan, but there was just something about this year that got me "hooked". I think this team is headed in the right direction!

I guess its sad when a 21 year old lives, eats, breathes...Rockets bball!!

Man, there was nothing like Game 6.....Toyota Center was crazy!!! I went to Game 4 as well, but lets not talk about that one.
