Bobby played with intensity every single night on both ends of the floor. In his younger years, he was known as one of the premier athletes of the NBA and competed in the Slam Dunk Contest. He also competed in the three point contest, which just shows how much of a versatile player he is. Bob only played 61 games as a Rocket and probably had his best years with the Cavs, but I think it is very important to appreciate him. He is the leading scorer of all time at Florida State and, In short, Bob is a very underrated player. Check out the Sura highlight mix I made if you have some time. Bobby will always be one of my favorite Rockets.
I liked his style of play and all, but for some reason I never really fell in love with him like most here do. I feel like he played too few a games to really be considered much compared to others. But I did get really excited when I jogged passed him at Memorial Park years ago haha.
He was solid, tough as nails, but I think I really missed SF3 in those days more than anything else. Even though Bobby had a much higher IQ, I missed that 20-7-7 impact from the PG position. Bobby and Steve played as hard as any Rockets to ever grace the uniform.
I loved Bobby. It was a shame that his body gave out in his first season as a Rocket. Seems like players come and die here .
I remember looking at the roster those days and wondering which rocket player had the same birthday as mine, and bobby was the one I saw with the same day as mine
I miss bobby, I miss the toughness he brought to our team. I don't think I've ever missed a white boy this much.
IIRC, it comes from a joke originating on a Chinese baskeball website. During his stint in Houston, Sura was known as a bit of a ladies man, always seen with a fine lady at his side. The joke went something like this: Yao: Bob, how do you get all of the ladies? Bob shows Yao his penis, which is of a good size for the average man. Then, a few days later, Yao comes up to Bob and is like, man, I took your advice, it's not working, this is terrible. Bob: How could it not be working? Yao then takes his pants off, showing Bob that he cut half of his penis off. *Sura falls in a faint.* ------ Now, I'm sure I probably messed up the story, but it definitely involved Yao messing up his junk.
Thanks for the mix! I've been looking for highlights of him forever. He was an awesome player and one of my favorite rockets. Just a tough character.
Man Sura was on of my favorite rockets. His hard nose attitude is something this team we have could really use. Too bad his career was slowed by injuries. Great vid.
I think my favorite Sura moment was in the 2005 first round series against Dallas, when Josh Howard fouled Yao hard a few times. Then, on the next play during a fast break, Sura leveled Howard into the sideline and called him a rookie.
