If Sura retires, how would that effect our cap status? I know he will still be paid, but will it count towards the roster payroll?

If Bobby is gone then that means he'll be man-whoring it up from here to Detroit. And his contract may come off of the cap this year if not then next year in the offseason it should. a question though... would that mean we'd have The MLE plus the availiable cap room or just the MLE?

This situation was earlier explained by a member of Clutch's Staff. From what I remember Sura will be unable to go because of injury and the rockets will be able to claim relief! If I am incorrect would a Staff Member kindly straighten thing out?

unless something has changed for sura in the last five days or so, I know that at least one chronicle columnist was saying he tought Sura would make a come back.

i don't think he's coming back. if he was making a comeback he would've see some time last night.

i think the rumors of jho and/or head being involved in a trade has something to do with bobby not retireing yet. his ending contract can still be used to make a trade work.

I hope Sura retires. Even if he comes back I dont think he will be in shape and prolly wont be the same. Rather than taking chances with Sura, I think he should retire which could open a roster spot for someone that could help. Rox are stacked at PG n SG position too.

I seem to recall around the draft, CD mentioned Sura/Rockets have already qualified for the 1yr waiting period/medical retirement thing, so the Rockets could take his salary off the books immediately if they wanted to?

I would rather have an out of shape sura at the backup pg than a poor shooting jl3 or turn over prone defensive liability in span. why is everyone giving up on a guy who would be one of the biggest leaders/tone setting players on the team?

Why are you not willing to give the Rockets youth a chance? John can light it up & controll the tempo at his will in a game like he showed us in the summer league. V-Span will become the rockets tone setter just give him a chance. It pre-season & his first game ever in the NBA! Give these guys a break.

I think its you who needs to give our guys a chance.

Sura's salary is inconsequential from a cap aspect. The Rockets are well over the cap by much, much more than Sura's $3.8M. And for the uninitiated, the Rockets will be over the cap as long as TMac and Yao are Rockets.

Sura could have some LTax implications. But the LTax is calculated based upon the teams' roster personnel on the last game of the regular season. They're a long way out from worrying about that one.

Let's see...hang out with a bunch of loud screaming guys or grab a seat with a hot babe? No offense, I'd think he'd opt for the latter. And so would I. :p

Why are you giving up on two players after the first preseason game?

Yes that is true they could take the salary off the books now. So if they have to pay a luxury tax they could deduct Sura’s salary off and eliminate or at least lower their penalty tax. But since the Salary cap is not an issue for the Rockets they don’t have to do that. So why wouldn’t they anyway since it frees up a roster spot. Especially since it looks doubtful he will ever return. Well there's this medical exception rule to consider.

If the Rockets release Sura now they will receive a Medical exception equal to half of Sura’s current Salary. Since Sura was scheduled to earn aprox. 4.2 mil they Rockets would receive a 2.1 medical exception. The only drawback is they would have 45 days to use it. Which means they would have to sign a player fast. Not much time especially since they already have a near full roster. So in all likelihood they would lose it. However if they wait until December 1st they would still receive the medical exception but would have until Oct. 1st of 2007 to sign a player with it. Big difference and one the Rockets are likely to invoke. Especially considering they were able to sign Bonzi a 2.1 million exception. So look for Sura to retire in December.

If Bonzi were to perform well and Sura retires in December could we use that medical exception to increase Bonzi's contract as a good faith gesture to maybe keep him for another season?
