....and i'll be able to sleep at night knowing that the 'horns did not lose to an old, rickety, b**chy, whiney, snide, loser of a b*stard like bob knight. "He graduates all his players, donates all this money.....blah blah blah." How about," He throws crap at all his secretaries, he shoots at all of his friends, he chokes all of his players, he yells down all of the reporters and referees!" That's just as accurate..... Texas should be 16-4 after the next two weeks. WELL on pace for our first round NCAA tourney loss.
The fact that TT had a chance to win the game speaks volumes about the job he has done. UT with all their talent, should be beating a team like TT by 10-15 points.
The game being close is a testament to what a raucous crowd will do for you. The game in Austin will not be close. The Rockets would have made the playoffs last year easily had they played in front of that Lubbock crowd.
I couldnt belive the crowd last night. Never in my 4.... errr 5 years at Tech had there ever been a crowd that large or rowdy (although I did enjoy the close knit sellout crowds of 8,500 at the old arena during our 95-96 30-2 season). Its great to see our program making huge strides after last years horrible season. Love him or hate him Bobby Knight takes whatever talent he has and makes the best of it. Im lukewarm about Knight's behavior, but the way he gets his teams to play really impresses me. Tech has 2 great players in Andy Ellis and Andre Emmett and that is about it. All the rest are JC transfers, walk-ons, or underclassmen.
drewdog...being is that you are from tech...did you feel the refs were biased or just overall crappy calls?
red- I dont think the ref's were biased. I mean there were some crappy calls here and there, but thats expected. I think they let them play pretty tough, but did blow a few calls. If Andy Ellis and the rest of the Raiders could make 60 to 70% of their free throws, we win hands down. Especially those 2 crucial misses by Ellis towards the end of the game.
Anytime the refs "let 'em play", that benefits UT more than anyone. The way UT plays very, very physical defense, touchy refs would be a nightmare. As a UT fan, I'd prefer biased refs that tend to let lots of stuff go over unbiased refs that call lots of fouls.
I don't like Bob Knight, and I think his record at Tech is overrated due to home games, but I'll give him credit he can coach. He is good.
Well, when this is your non-conference schedule, I don't think it matters where you play..... Will & Mary's, San Diego St., SMU, UTEP, TCU, Houston, Stetson, New Mexico St., Lousianna Lafayette... TTU would be 6-9, 7-8 if they played the schedule that UT played, or even OU, with Arkansas, Maryland, UConn...
ok, i suck...irrelevant. Bob knight makes his players better, only to FLAME OUT in the first round, or second if he's lucky, of the ncaa tourney. Ooohh.....I can think of LOTS of teams looking for an egomaniac of a coach who can't ever win a big game. Tech comes to mind because they need something to rid them of that middle of nowhere "bad taste in your mouth" feeling that everyone gets everytime they have to pass through luxurious Lubbock. How do you do that? Hire an ingrate that people will pay to watch just to see what he will throw next, or what ignorance will creep out of his mouth, or how will he humiliate his players. Yes, he knows basketball, but he knows little about class or relating to the modern student-athlete. Ryan
Is that Tech's basketball schedule or Texas' football schedule? Bob Knight is a heck of a coach but they have played some crap teams so far this season. It'll be interesting to see how Knight's rep affects his recruiting in Texas. Hey I think Knight has won a few big games even if it's been a while. Three more big games than a lot of other schools have ever won.
Smart move by Bob Knight to schedule weak opponents and lots of home games. Not only does it give his players confidence, it also excites the fan base. The record also brings in media attention.
Anyone notice that the Tech game was on national TV this afternoon? No not ABC/ESPN which I thought was the Big 12 TV deal. OU played at Kansas on ABC. UT hosted Nebraska on ESPN Plus. The game vs. Okla. St. was on CBS. CBS loves Bob Knight from his days at IU.
Today Tech beat the #6 team in the country. Coach Kinght has done an incredible with this team. As the Texas game showed, this team has talent and will play hard all game. If they keep this up I see an NCAA berth for this team.
