Basketball movie with Nick Nolte...watching it right now on USA...man, Shaq has to be one of the worst actors I have ever seen .
Nick Nolte was made to play a Bobby Knight-esque role. Penny was not much better. The guy from Indiana wasnt bad though. Greatest basketball movie of all time: Hoosiers "Don't get caught watching the paint dry"
Who is the white guy that Nolte recruits? The one with the Baptist parents? Did he play in the NBA? He looks familiar.
That was Matt Nover. Played college ball for Indiana back in the early 90s. Decent player from what I remember, but I don't think he ever set foot in the NBA. He suffered from the usual "tall shooting white guy" syndrom that plagued the likes of Jason Collier and other classic NBA failures. He was no Brad Lohaus.
It was a very good movie, but I agree that Hoosiers is the best BB movie ever. I also like the one with Don Cheadle called "Rebound: The Legend of Earl 'The Goat' Manigault."
Blue Chips sucked. I mean cmon, it doesn't even have the kid from Jerry Macguire in it, let alone lil bow-wow. Here's a gem of a basketball movie that seemed to slip underneath the radar:
I had to flip over and watch that movie when I saw it on. Interesting to see the extras they get to play in the basketball scenes. I noticed NBA players like Allan Houston, Rodney Rogers, Calbert Chaney, Chris Mills, Rick Fox, George Lynch and the familiar names of Rex Walters, Bobby Hurley, Keith Smart and former Rockets Eric Riley and Richard Petruska. Petruska actually got a few lines.
Blue Chips is a decent movie. I used to watch it like everytime it came on back when it was first out.
You all MUST be joking...Best basketball movie ever was White Men Can't Jump... "What is a quince?? It's a FOOD, Billy, that starts with the letter 'Q'!! And I got seven more!!"
Ron Truitt who coached Cy-Fair to the state title in 1971 was one of those kids from Milan (Hickory) who lived that fairy tale.
Ron was one of my youth swim coaches. I played basketball at Memorial against his Cy-Fair squad. I remember we lost a 6-overtime game at their gym the year they won that state title. He passed away several years ago with cancer, I believe.
