Looking to get a Blu-ray player. What does everyone else have? How have they been working out for everyone? Any recommendations on which ones I should consider?

    thanks!

Late to the party, bro! Question: Got a 1080p TV? That'll help you maximize quality.

Blu-ray players are pretty cheap these days ($100 to $150). I use my PS3, personally. I think you'd probably be fine with any brand except for the crappy house brands like Best Buy's Insignia.

LOL, yeah, late the party! ;-) Been upgrading my setup and Blu-ray is next on the list. I have a 58" (800u) panny plasma. So yeah, 1080p.

I know the PS3 is out there, but was also wondering of the stand alone players.

Use my PS3 myself but I think you would be good with any name brand as as long as it has internet connectivity for updates.

I have the LG BD590. It is awesome. It allows me to stream, utube, netflix Vudu Cinema now and even play music if I want.

However, if I had to do it over again, I would have probably gotten it without the harddrive BD570. Because really if you have a computer that streams your music, then the extra 125 dollar is a waste of money.

They also frequently update this player 2 or 3 times a month sometimes.

Oh yeah, the wifi works flawlessly even with vudu hdx. That is if you spend the 70 or 80 dollars or so a month like I do for the best comcast cable model speed.

I use a PS3 for my Blu-ray on a 1080i old DLP 56" Sony Wega. You've got a better TV and your Blu-rays would look better than mine.

Do you have any preference as to what brand you like or what the features of the Blu-ray player should have?

There are some with online features, etc.

    No blu-ray player here.

I bootleg my hi-def movies and watch them on a WDTV device.

Paying $20 per movie ain't for me.

Why are you paying $20 per movie? You can rent them off services or from friends and return them. You don't need to keep them. :p

PS3. Not only is it a good Blu Ray player, you can sign up Netflix streaming which will make you hardly watch regular television again.

PS3 for me mainly because its about 60-70% of the blu-ray player market out there and probably makes up 90% of the Sony blu-ray player market share. If there are ever any updates made for the blu-ray format you know it will be made with the PS3 in mind.

I had a samsung bdp-1200 before which was great but samsung stopped updating it (though it had network connectivity) after their new model came out.

Also whats nice about the PS3 is that the load time for blu-rays are significantly shorter because of the massive processing power it has (not sure if the case with newer blu-ray players)

Got a PS3 slim, works great.

But yeah you can get a standalone for much cheaper now. I'd go Sony or Samsung.

Have bought 3 panasonics. One for me and two as presents. They were about $99 and have netflix, amazon VOD, VuDu, YouTube, Weather and more. Great pic quality.
