Can someone please tell me why my phone's search engine, ie. call network, is saying "initialization failed."

It's annoying as it is my only phone these days.

    TIA.

    search engine (snicker)

    Pull the battery
Pull out the sim card (if it's ATT/TMobile)
Wipe contact side (goldish) of simcard to make sure there's no dirt/gunk/whatever
    Put sim card back in
    Put battery back in

If it doesn't work, call your phone provider. Try stepping outside when you put the battery back in, slight possibility that it ACTUALLY is having trouble initializing on the network due to signal issues.

    Yeah, yeah.

None of that is working! Am I to assume it is my phone? Crap!

    UGH!

EDIT: And it will call 911, but that is all.

Alright. It is official. For some reason, my SIM card has died. I put it into a different phone and it is not reading in that one, either.

I am livid. I'm going to tear into some poor salesman tomorrow.

Have you guys upgraded your firmware recently? I did on my Curve (T-mobile)and things seem to be moving faster now.
