No offense, but i have been using BT for almost a year now and know about the seeds, peers thing. Before I had maybe 2-3 seeds and would get the speeds i said above. The downloads I do now even have MORE seeds, well over 5, yet my d/ls still suck. I even check how fast the other peers are downloading and they are d/ling 2-3times faster than I am. And yes, I do leave my torrents open after d/ling to where I at least have a 1.0 shared rating, even sometimes, i leave it for a day to get something like 5.0 shared rating.
Well, I switched to the Shadow, found out that I was firewalled, and made some of the recommended changes. I'm now getting 25 kb/s on one file - and it hasn't crashed since the light turned green. Do you all generally download a bunch at once or just stick to one or two at a time?
Dave-- no offense intended, none taken. Since I started messing with this I have run into tons of people that dont bother to learn about how it works, so when answering questions...I assume the worst and hope for the best. Hwo configurable is your client? Can you set max uploads or shape down/up rates at all? In my experience, setting it to allow more uploaders increases my download rate...dont know if it is a coincidence or not. The slowdown issue with having more seeds is still variable based on how those seeds have their client setup. If they are allowing 10 uploads and have the uploading capped out, it may be showing a high cumlative upload spped, but still be a relatively low upload speed per peer. Snipe- depends on how bad I want the file....If I dont mind waiting for it.....Ill have multiple things going at the same time....I only have so much bandwidth, so I parsel it out judiciously.. Right now...I have two downloads, and 3 uploads going...but have given the Rockets game more bandwidth to assist in seeding it....so the other two are only allowed 4 uploads per and have the two downloads set for 5 a piece to facilitate my downloading.
