ESPN radio is reporting that Cartwright is fired and I think Pete Myers is taking over as interim head coach.
"Pistol" Pete Myers?? The same Pete Myers who had the impossible task of being Jordan's replacement at SG when he retired???
Damn, who would have thought that Bill Cartwright being fired would get THREE threads. Normally, I'm not a proponent of firing a head coach mid season, but this might be a good move for the Bulls. Curry and Chandler are each shooting over 46% from the field, yet Jalen Rose is taking the most shot attempts while shooting a blistering 37%. Plus, there's no real go to guy. The difference between the leading scorer and 5th leading scorer on the team is only 4 ppg, not good on a team that averages 90 per game...
I see the coaching Guillotine has chopped another HEAD............... .........coach that is! Who's next on the clock......? ....Frank Johnson maybe after the Suns bad start.
Well Doc Rivers got fired at the right time; looks like he'll become a hot commodity in the upcoiming weeks.
Another reason not to watch ESPN's "Around the Horn"... talking about a replacement coach, Woody Paige suggests they make Scottie Pippen player/coach. He was serious. The concept of the show is good, but the guys they have are usually complete idiots. Doc Rivers is the obvious candidate to take over.
Skiles is the supposed leader of the pack, but I wonder if (that idiot) Woody Paige actually nailed it. That would set the Bulls back even further!
Skiles to be named new Bulls head coach: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=bullsskiles&prov=st&type=lgns CHICAGO (Ticker) - It appears John Paxson is counting on Scott Skiles to toughen up the Chicago Bulls. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the Bulls are expected to name Skiles as their coach at a Friday news conference. After a disappointing 4-10 start, the Bulls fired Bill Cartwright on Monday and named scout Pete Myers as interim coach. Myers will run the team for back-to-back games Tuesday and Wednesday at Dallas and San Antonio. Paxson, the Bulls general manager, vowed that the dismissal of Cartwright "represented the first change, but not necessarily the last." Paxson apparently wants a tough-minded disciplinarian after many believed Cartwright was too soft on the players and Skiles appears to fill the bill. The 39-year-old Skiles compiled a 116-79 record in 2 1/2 seasons as coach of the Phoenix Suns, but probably is best known for his intense demeanor as a player and a coach He once went after Los Angeles Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal during an altercation and reportedly clashed with Jason Kidd and Rodney Rogers in Phoenix before resigning as coach during the 2000-01 season. In Chicago, he would take over a team that is shopping veteran swingman Jalen Rose and building around youngsters Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry. The Bulls have struggled in the absence of point guard Jay Williams, who was involved in an motorcycle accident over the summer. Chicago also brought back Scottie Pippen, but the veteran forward is averaging just 7.1 points and 3.4 rebounds. Skiles replaced Danny Ainge as Suns coach during the 1999-2000 season and guided them to a 40-22 record the rest of the way and a first-round playoff upset of the San Antonio Spurs. In Skiles' only full season in 2000-01, the Suns went 51-31 and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. But he stepped down as coach in February 2002 with Phoenix struggling with a 25-26 record. Known for his feisty style, Skiles played 10 years in the NBA and averaged 11.1 points and 6.5 assists. He holds the record for most assists in a game with 30 while playing for Orlando in a December 30, 1990 contest against Denver.
