What does "Ghetto" have to do with any of this? It's already gone big time, he just got a deal with Comedy Central to do his own series. I think you're an interesting dude FFB, hit me up anytime. cop2comic@aol.com
I think a guy who can be honest about racial tensions and society as a whole is more intelligent and funnier than these kind of comedians who just stand up there and say "Hey You know its hard being a -insert race- because you know they always -insert racial stereotype- As I mentioned early, intelligent comedy to me can be a number of any things. Slapstick at its finest is comedic genius. Monty Python introduced the British subtle, yet crass humor that was sometimes almost too dry to comprehend and sometimes smack you in the face offensive. The Simpsons brought apart a legion of clever dialogue ploys. Seinfeld really brought home observational humor. I think a good mix of everything can also work for some people. I saw Aries Spears at The Improv, and yes he was using the same material he's been using for years... but he touches on race humor, sexual humor, society, observational, and then he does an amazing Shaq impression. That was enough to make me bust a gut throughout.
I always notice that people laugh at things that they can relate to. I could imagine that's probably the reason why comedians write stuff about common themes like race issues, gender differences, and children. There are comedians that have alot of material on being awkward, nerdy, and atheist. I've noticed their audience can relate to that on some level.
His standup was better than I was expecting thats for sure. Even though I had heard some of it before on an old comedy central show. But like I said, he was all over the place, race, sex, family, observational, and then he closes with a big rap remix where he impersonates DMX, LL Cool J, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg dead on. He was funny, I laughed a lot.
That first clip got me AB, I'm now a fan! I thought I knew him and HATED him but realized I got him confused w/ that stupid Titus guy!
