That Astros should have put more money in the incentives, so Biggio would have to earn his contract.

Hopefully, these "incentives" aren't a .260 average with 15 homers and 50 RBIs....

    From "The Sporting News" -

"The new deal calls for a $3 million salary in 2004 and gives the Astros a $3 million option for 2005 with a $1 million buyout. Biggio can earn $1.5 million annually in performance bonuses, $250,000 each for 450, 500, 550, 600, 650 and 700 plate appearances. "

I was really hoping for the 'stros to spead this years $8 mill over three years and sweeten it to about a $12 Mill package for the three years. Now he will make a base of 12 and as much as 17. That's too much. He already got his Golden Parachute as I said before. This is our money McLane is spending for his buddy. If he sells in two years as the rumors go, this cost him nothing.

Plate appearances?? So, basically, he'll get the bonus as long as he doesn't get hurt...niiiiiiiice move...

At least the Astros have the buyout if he doesn't perform next season...

what happens if kent goes down with a season ending injury during spring training? since the astros are my favorite baseball team and i want them to do well this could very likely happen. then how bad would this biggio extension seem?

Don't forget we have other solid infielders on our team that can play everyday on 2nd base. I am talking about Jose Viscaino and to a smaller extent Geoff Blum and Julio Lugo.
