Andris Biedrins is averaging 18/12 and got 16/22 tonight... Can someone who has watched him this season remind me how he gets his points? I don't remember him having a jumpshot.
It's Golden State. My guess is dunk, dunk, dunk, alley-oop dunk, dunk, dunk, dunk. Throw in the occasional 5 foot jump hook...and voila.
He scores his points by staying active. Look at his offensive rebounds tonight. He's also a good roller on the P n' R
I watched Golden State game the other name, and let me tell you...the next big thing might not be Andrew Bynum. It might be this guy...he's only 22 years old. He's putting up Dwight Howard/Elton Brand numbers. This is the guy I would've given Andrew Bynum's contract to. He's high percentage scorer and very skilled and great rebounder, but his defense needs some work. Don't be surprised, if he makes it to the All-Star game.
Some other center does that and people think he's pretty good...maybe the best in the league. But to be fair, he does have defense, unlike Biedrins.
Biedrins: Lay-up. Biedrins: Off. Rebound. Biedrins: Missed Tip-in. Biedrins: Off. Rebound. Biedrins: Missed Tip-in. Biedrins: Off. Rebound. that's 3 rebounds and 2 points. you repeat that 5 times a game, you get 15 rebounds and 10 points.
I have not seen a lot of him. Maybe 10-12 games and he certainly is an active, relentless player but I get the feeling he benefits from the style of play more than any other Warrior players. I could very easily see this guy not getting into the playing rotation on 1/2 the teams in the league. Good for him for taking an opportunity and making the most of it but he isn't going to be an elite or even a great player in this league.
Biedrins has no shooting touch and never will. He's active on the boards and a decent shot blocker. He scores on tip-ins, putbacks from offensive rebounds and the occasional pick and roll. That is all he is and all he ever will be. He has no mid-range or low-post game. He is career backup material and only starts because he plays for a team with a total lack of legit frontcourt players.
I think he's pretty decent for a team that doesn't have true center. I actually think he could start on about 10 to 12 teams, though.
Hes got a nice touch around the basket for tip ins and layups. He's long and tall which helps him finish. He's got no jumpshot at all. He's basically a crappier but taller version of chuck hayes. Hayes isnt a bad finisher he just has to get those shots up fast because hes so short.
And you'd shoot 33% from the floor. Biedrins consistently leads the league in FG%. He has a short jump hook (within 3-4 feet of the hoop). Like everyone has said, he is constantly active on the offense end for the feed and jam. He is a superb rebounder - one of the best in the league at the offensive end. No doubt he gets plenty of offensive rebounds and put-backs, and in the high possession warriors offensive system, there will be plenty of chances for that! He's a strong toiler who is very young to be doing the things he does so well. As he matures my guess would be that his jump hook develops; he gets taught a turn-around and a 14 footer gets added! Warriors did well to lock him up.
Hard to say, Hayes is pretty d@mn good defender, while Biedrins leaves something to be desired outside of occassionally highlight reel block. Biedrens in turn is a better offensive player, he can finish and is super active on offense. Chuck on the other hand allows teams to cheat over on Yao or other player with a hothand. He can't finish....at all. And his FT shooting makes Biedrins look half way decent. The rebounding and shot block edge also goes to Biendrins.
wait, someone is seriously comparing Chuck Hayes to Biedrins..? I think its pretty clear that Biedrins is the better player.
They're both technically power forwards/centers/small forwards...living embodiments of either...too tall, too short, too big, too small, and we don't know what the #ell they are kind of players.
