The New Testament was first written in Greek, I believe.

Thank you for the quick input.

I also must ask what time periods was the Bible written in (New and Old Testaments)?

How did it start off in Greek but end up in English?

    Here's a nice little chart I found:
    Author/Date Chart

I don't think Abraham wrote anything that lasted.

Woe to you, Oh Earth and Sea, for the Devil sends the
beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short...
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the
beast for it is a human number, its number is Six hundred and
    sixty six."

I left alone my mind was blank
I needed time to think to get the memories from my mind

What did I see can I believe that what I saw
that night was real and not just fantasy

Just what I saw in my old dreams were they
reflections of my warped mind staring back at me

'Cos in my dream it's always there the evil face that twists my mind
    and brings me to despair

The night was black was no use holding back
'Cos I just had to see was someone watching me
In the mist dark figures move and twist
Was this all for real or some kind of hell
666 the number of the beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed and sacred chants were praised
As they start to cry hands held to the sky
In the night the fires burning bright
The ritual has begun Satan's work is done
666 the number of the beast
    Sacrifice is going on tonight

This can't go on I must inform the law
Can this still be real or just some crazy dream
But I feel drawn towards the evil chanting hordes
They seem to mesmerise me ... can't avoid their eyes
666 the number of the beast
666 the one for you and me

I'm coming back I will return
And I'll possess your body and I'll make you burn
I have the fire I have the force
I have the power to make my evil take it's course

Lil Pun, you really like to resurrect dead threads, don't you?

Anyways, there are many places you can read about the history of the Bible, as mc and m_g already pointed to. No need for us to add anything here.

I only do it because Clutch doesn't like us to start new threads on subjects that have recent threads dedicated to them so when a question comes up, yes I'll put it in this one instead of starting another. ;)

    Thanks for the information guys.

I believe the word you are looking for is "agnostic," but that means someone who doesn't believe anyone can know whether there is a God or not.

I am agnostic and although your definition is right there are many ways to be considered agnostic. I am one who is skeptical about the existence of God but doesn't dismiss the idea totally. So yeah, I'm agnostic.

I haven’t read the whole thread, but perhaps apostasy was the word you were looking for?

Does anybody else agree with this list or does anybody dispute the authors of any of the section of the Bible? The person I was having a discussion with clearly stated that Abraham wrote a big chunk of the Bible. Is this not true or did she really mean something else?

This is the first time I've heard Abraham wrote any part of the Bible. I think either you misunderstood her or she didn't know what she was talking about.

No, I did not misunderstand her. In my previous post I said that she "clearly" stated that Abraham wrote a big chunk of it. Here is what exactly was said in our discussion:

Me: So, who wrote the Bible? I mean, who are the authors? Does anybody really know?

    Her: Yes they know.

    Me: So who wrote it?

Her: A lot of different people.

    Me: Name them please.

Her: Well Abraham wrote a big chunk of it. Then you have John, Paul, Luke, Matthew who also wrote a lot of it.

Me: And that's all? Those are the exact authors.

Her: Well I didn't name them all just giving you a few of the writers.

Uh yeah that chart is way wrong....

I had a class called Understanding the Bible (from a Catholic viewpoint I know I'm a damn papist) and it went through the writers, analyzing words used, sentence strucutre, etc. and they broke the pentatauch into 5 writers I think, none of them with names... the one who wrote Genesis is just called the patrisitic father, also just because Genesis appears first, does not mean it was the first book written.... I think Exodous might have come first... If you want to know more I'd have to search through my old boxes for my notes but I'd rather you just go to vatican.net because I am very lazy these days...109 degrees yesterday just makes you want to sit... and siZzLLe

    I'm MELting
