I understand your pont but here is what I see as a flaw in their thinking. The non-believer doesn't believe based on the interpretation of the fundimentalist, and the 100% literalists. Basically they are picking the strictest interpretation which is the easiest to argue about and trying to discredit the whole thing. Because fundimentalists are usually quite zealous in their beliefs they will argue, and often condemn which doesn't help anyone to believe more. Only by sticking to the spiritual guidance and how that helps us live our lives can any progress be made. IMO
I don't think I understand what your trying to say. Is the flaw assumed condemnation? When defending the Bible using science and history, those defending have to stick to the rules of science and rules of history to be credible. It is then shown that it is in the interpretation of the findings (and non-findings) that the two sides differ, which logically leads to the basis of interpretation. Those who condemn in this situation aren't zealous, they're usually lacking in something. (faith, knowledge, preparation, ...)
That doesn't sound like Christ to me. Here are his words straight from his mouth. Sounds to me like Jesus said that most people choose condemnation instead of salvation.
No need to contact the IRC. I am fairly sure that they already have their mind made up. Whatever you do, do not mention that there were dinosaurs on Noah's Ark. That has zero credibility.
Why does everybody keep saying there were dinos on Noah's Ark? Dinosaurs lived hundreds of millions of years ago and man has only been around several thousand I believe.
please understand that EVERYBODY is not saying that. i Sherlock said it...not sure if anyone else is willing to stand behind that one. i'm pretty sure i'm not!
Sorry MadMax I didn't mean everybody in a literal sense. I have just seen many, many people post that Noah's Ark had dinos on it or dinos could have fit or just something about some damn dinosaurs. I guess I should rephrase that eh? Why do many of you keep saying there were dinos on the damn Ark!?
that's what i'm saying though...only one person has posted that as a positive assertion. people have responded...jokingly, to be sure. so the word dinosaur has come up a few times...but only one person actually asserted that dinosaurs were on the ark.
Is this an admission that you are trying to change other people's belief system? Concerning dinosaurs, I guess you have to start with identifying how many different types of dinosaurs there really were, what were there sizes, and , for the really huge ones, if there was a stage in their life cycle where they could have fit into that huge ark. Since the first point is debatable, that is the first obstacle to tackle before establishing zero credibility. But whatever floats my ark, right?
You're correct. Sorry about that. Hey Sherlock can you back up this claim that dinos were on the Ark?
Concerning dinosaurs part 2: Noah was told to take on board the Ark two of each kind of created animal "in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land" (7:22) God's description of the large "behemoth" in Job 40:15-24 sounds remarkably like a large sauropod. And the description of "leviathan" (Job 41) is very dinosaur-like. In fact, "dragon legends" are best understood as the faded and/or embellished memories of real human encounters with dragons. Sober historians from Herodotus to Marco Polo to Alexander the Great and many others appear to be relating such encounters, and their descriptions of these beasts sound like dinosaurs. Likewise, American-indian stories of the "thunderbird" sound like a giant flying reptile, and some of their cave drawings resemble dinosaurs. Attempts to explain either their demise or their evolution fall short.
Its the people at the ICR (Institute for Creation Research) who are making the claim. But hey weren't dinosaurs on the Flintstones or something?
No what I'm saying is this. Fundimentalists believe that the earth is only a few thousand years old. Yet many Christians understand that the earth is many millions of years old. However when some argue against Christianity they will say, 'How can it be true? Science has shown that the earths hundreds of millions of years old, Christianity is false.' They are taking the fundimentalist view and arguing against the whole practice.
Dear FBlade, I respectfully admit that I have no idea what your point is most of the time. To me (and probably only me), your responses are so vague that I could take a number of meanings from your posts. And when I try to focus on a direction I believe you are trying to go toward, you seem to change the original intent of your point of view in response to my response. It's as if you haven't finished your thought process before you post. What I'm trying to point out is that I have a very hard time following your writing technique and/or your presentation of your logic flow. I am sure you have a lot of knwledge and insight, but your presentation is lacking to me. I am used to "make a point, stick to the point, exhaust discussion of the point before moving on to the next point". So if it's just me, I apologize and please bear with me. Back to this discussion. So is your point (and only point) that the fundamentalists' flaw is all "Christian's" don't believe what the fundamentalist christians believe in regard to science?
Is there any thing in the Bible that talks about drugs being bad or sinful or is there anything in the Bible that might be interpreted that way?
From christainanswers.com Dinosaur-like creatures are mentioned in the Bible. The Bible uses ancient names like "behemoth" (beh-HEE-moth) and "tannin." Behemoth means kingly, gigantic beasts. Tannin is a term which includes dragon-like animals and the great sea creatures such as whales, giant squids, and marine reptiles like the plesiosaurs (PLEE-see-oh-sors) that may have become extinct (died out). The Bible's best description of a dinosaur-like animal is in Job chapter 40... "Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feed on grass like an ox. What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. He ranks first among the works of God..." -Job 40:15-19 (NIV) The book of Job is very old, written after the worldwide flood of Noah's time and probably about 2,000 years before Jesus was born. Here God describes a great king of the land animals like some of the biggest dinosaurs, the Diplodocus and Apatosaurus. It was a gigantic plant-eater with great muscles and very strong bones. The long Diplodocus had leg bones so strong that he could have held three others on his back. The behemoth were not afraid. They did not need to be; they were huge. Behemoth tails were so long and strong that God compared them to cedars--one of the largest and most spectacular trees of the ancient world. After all the behemoth had died out, many people forgot about them. Dinosaurs were extinct and the fossil skeletons that are in museums today did not begin to be put together until about 150 years ago. Today, some people have mistakenly guessed that the behemoth mentioned in the Bible might be an elephant or a hippopotamus. But those animals do not have tails like the thick, tall trunks of cedar trees!
Lil Pun -- nothing that directly mentions drugs, per se. but i think you certainly extrapolate that concept from the following verses that deal with drunkeness. Romans 13:13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 1 Corinthians 6:10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. Ephesians 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 1 Peter 4:3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do–living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
Are dinosaurs mentioned in the Bible? Man and dinosaurs lived at the same time. There was never a time when dinosaurs ruled the earth. Most scientists would disagree with the above.
