    My favorites:

    Come Together - Aerosmith
    Come Together - Michael Jackson
(Money Can't) Buy Me Love - Blackstreet
Tomorrow Never Knows - Phil Collins
    Right Here - SWV
    Words of Love - REM
    Yesterday - Boyz II Men
UB40 - The Way You Do the Things You Do

Of course many of my favorite covers happen to be Beatles songs, arguably the most covered band ever.

    What are your favorites?

    I'll tell u what's not a good cover...Kelly Osbourne's "Papa Don't Preach"...original is a classic...shouldn't even touch it.

Plus with the fact that the recording sounds like it's from a karaoke bar or somethin...

"What's So Funny 'Bout Peace, Love, & Understanding" (orig. recorded by Nick Lowe) -- Elvis Costello

    "Satisfaction" (Stones, duh) -- Devo

"Top of the World" (Carpenters!) -- Shonen Knife

"Gin & Juice" (Snoop Dogg) -- Sissybar

"Sweet Jane" (Lou Reed) -- Cowboy Junkies

"I'll Keep It With Mine" (Bob Dylan) -- Marianne Faithfull

Some of the best cover versions I've heard were live ... an L.A. funk/jazz/rock band from the late '80s/early '90s called Bloc (think Red Hot Chili Peppers, with 10x the musical chops) used to do mind-blowing versions of Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" and the Allman Brothers' "Whipping Post" as encores.

I've also seen, on separate occasions, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop do the old Sinatra tune "One for My Baby" (you know, "It's a quarter to three, there's no one in the place except you and me ..."). Lou Reed also recorded a good rock version of Kurt Weill's "September Song."

"Walk This Way" is another decent cover, again by Aerosmith...most people don't know it's their original.

Someone mentioned Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice" - and I'm not sure the cover listed is the one I'm thinking of, but there's a cover of it by some country band that sounds freaking hilarious.

Radiohead covered an old James Bond song, "Nobody Does it Better", very very nice.

Cowboy Junkies cover of Sweet Jane is one of the best, they didn't just turn up the distortion, they actually had their own interpretation.

Mazzy Star's "Fade into Me" was covered by Flickerstick, even though I dislike Flickerstick its a good cover.
