Dead Space Dead Space 2 Heavy Rain (PS3 exclusive) Gran Turismo 5 (PS3 exclusive) Alan Wake (360 exclusive)
Depends. Current or just good ones overall? The best I've played this generation are... -Dead Space -God of War III -Uncharted 1 and 2 -Modern Warfare 1 and 2 -Mass Effect 2 -Infamous -Bioshock -Dragon Age -Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time -Portal Those are what come to mind first. Still waiting for the rerelease of Beyond Good and Evil HD on PS3. If you have an XBox scoop that one up quick.
After much thought, I have decided that Dead Space 2 is the greatest game of all time. Never have I immediately started a new game upon completion, not once, but TWICE. I started on Normal, second run-through on Verteran and last on Zealot. By my third run-though I had seriously pimped out weapons and gear. the Necromorphs had no chance. I love survival horror games and no game has done it better than Dead Space. Scary, scary stuff. Intense action with a lot of strategy. So many ways to "dismember" your enemies. Also a fantastic story for both games. I'm glad they gave Issac a voice for the sequel. Exellent acting all around.
I'm late to the PS3 party and it'll be awhile before I'm caught up, but so far... - Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - Batman: Arkham Asylum - KillZone 2 ...have all been AWESOME. Especially Batman and KillZone. GTA4 has, so far, been a surprising letdown. The game is so massive it's almost overwhelming, and it doesn't feel any more 'new' or 'revolutionary' than its predecessors Vice City and San Andreas. I was really impressed with the visuals (at first), but severely underwhelmed at the controls and the draw distance (or whatever it's called) is bad enough to be distracting. It's basically GTA:VC and GTA:SA but bigger and with better graphics. I'll give it another go, but it's definitely sitting at the bottom of the list. This one is definitely on my list. Is the first one worth the price of admission or should I just start with 2?
I really hate how like 95% of the top rated games these days are either FPS, Racing, Fighters, or Sports games. There seem to be no good, original titles being made anymore.
Looking to get a console (yes, behind the times) not only for myself but my sister as well. I would be looking mostly at FPS (been playing CoD multiplayer at my friend's place), but she's more of an RPG type. Which console, in your opinion, would be the best compromise? I figure PS3 would have better RPG type titles, but I really want to play CoD on XBox Live...
Get an xbox so u can play your FPS games on xboxlive. I have both and picked up CoD for ps3...service sucks balls. I should've got it for xbox. And your sister can play the main RPGs like FF13 on xbox now.
I agree that the gaming landscape is flooded with those types of games, but I wouldn't say that the top rated titles necessarily fit that description. Look at the top 5 PS3 titles for 2010 based on metacritic.com scores. Mass Effect 2 Little Big Planet 2 MLB 11: The Show Dead Space 2 Plants vs. Zombies The only game that clearly applies here is MLB 11: The Show. Although at its core, Dead Space is a first person shooter, it doesn't play like any other on the market. The gameplay concepts are extremely original. As for 360... Dead Space 2 Crysis 2 Fight Night Champion Beyond Good & Evil HD Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds This leans more toward your point, but combined with the PS3 titles only 4 out of 10 of the top games from this past year fit your original description. And once you include Wii games...well.
She goes a *little* further than I would with the praise, but she's hot and her review is spoiler free (though comments may contain spoilers). <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/oDl52t6rDL8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Absolutely. I would start with the first one. It was my all-time favorite until the sequel was released and improved upon the first Dead Space significantly. After going through DS2 three consecutive play-throughs, I immediately dusted off DS1 and played through it again on Hard.
