Although I am a big fan of Francis and do believe that he will in a couple of years be the best point gaurd in the NBA it is hard to go against Kidd and Marbury. But then again Steve still gets voted into as a starter in the All-Star games over Marbury.

Kidd still has the edge but not for long, the only reason is that Kidd at the moment has the ability to feed an average to good player the ball and make him look better then he actually is.

Marbury's stats prove at the moment that he is a better point then Steve, he and Oscar Robinson are the only players to average 20 points and 8 assist over there career.

Give steve a couple of years and he will be the top point guard

    Hansie's top 5

    5. Nash
    4. Payton
    3. Francis
    2. Marbury
    1. Kidd

As much as I dislike the bloke Parker will be on the list in 3 years

I might be from Australia but I still love my rockets

When you talk about best players in any position, you look at everything, offense, defense, savvy, leadership and everything. When considering if Francis is the best pg, look at everything. Don't just look at the dunks or the dribbling, look at the entire package. I think when you look at entire package, most will see Francis 4th or 5th at best. When evaluating the situation under the scrutiny of a tight game whether you down by 4 or up by 4 with 2mins left, who do you want with the ball?

Payton,Kidd,Marbury,Nash,Francis,Davis,Cassell. Its really debatable about Francis,Davis and Cassell, but I'm kinda giving him some.

Why do i have Franis after the top 4? How many times have we seen him to the ball or just make a plain bad decision with the ball at the end of a game. If the road is 1 option, and thats to score, Francis ranks a little higher, but if there's a fork in the rd, it seems like he takes or makes the wrong choice. I'm not laying it all on Francis, but the record with this team played in decided by 3 pts or less does have alot to do with him. I said it last yr and i'll still stick to it, with the game on the line, i dont really have the confidence in our "captains" to make the right decisions. Until they prove to me otherwise, their basketball IQ is right at 70.

I agree with alley-hoop. Steve is by far the most complete player at his position. One could argue that he is not the best passer (and you would be right), and he is not the best shooter (and you would definately be right), but he does a little bit of everything. Steve is STILL young. You can't expect a player to play a little and then blossom into an MVP. Jeff Van Gundy will bring all that potential out of him and then we all will realize what we have is something great!;)

Obviously there is a generation gap among posters here on our BBS... so, either MacB is too old or Maria is too young... I guess that explains it all... :D

As a result, the best point guard from the perspective of different generations are:

    - In the eyes of the elderly: Jason Kidd

    - Choice of the mid-age group: Gary Payton

    - New blood: Steve Francis
