Baloney. All Houstonian ice cream lovers need to visit Hank's Ice Cream, located on South Main near Reliant Stadium. 100% homemade and handmade. Hank's supplies the ice cream to the Toyota Center. Some of his flavors are out of this world. Hank's butter pecan has hand roasted pecan halves stirred into it. He makes this one flavor that I die for called Grape Nuts....pulverized Grape Nuts cereal stirred into very sweet French vanilla ice cream. Hank's also makes the best shakes and malts in town. Trust me, fellow denizens of ClutchFans.net....once you try Hank's, you will forget that Amy's ever existed. I tried Hank's almost 3 years ago, and I have never been back to Amy's. Hank's is the best ice cream in Houston, the state of Texas, the country, the planet and the universe. I kid you not!
Blue Bell is good ice cream for a macro-creamery. Amy's ice cream is too sweet, can't stand it. In fact, of the ice cream places I've been to, the only one that isn't too sweet is piddly Baskin Robbins. I haven't been to Hank's though, so maybe I should try it. Store bought, my favorite is Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. It is too sweet too, because of the raw cookie dough, but in a good way, not a sickly Amy's sort of way. It just means I can't eat the whole thing in one sitting. But homemade ice cream is the best. Freshness is important for ice cream, so it's hard for companies to compete. It's more complicated to make than I would think though, so I leave it to the wife.
Marble Slab: Sweet cream with M&M's mixed in...in a dark chocolate cone. Seriously, I've been getting that same thing there since I was in the 4th grade.
Cheesecake with Butterfingers mixed in or Coconut with chocolate chips mixed in (dark chocolate cone might apply here too) mmmmm.... Marble Slab..... Also, there used to be something good at Oscar's called something like chocolate raspberry fudge. Had it all the time back in the days when I could get away with eating whatever.
I sorta agree. I didn't like Hank's fruit ice creams, but his Banana Pudding ice cream may be one of the best desserts ever created! BTW...there is an ice cream place that just opened in League City, Jus Rite, that serves Hank's. It's located at the FM 518/I-45 intersection on the southbound side. Mulder...I agree with your B&R peanut butter and chocolate. I love that ice cream!!! Additionally, throw in my vote for Bluebell Homemade Vanilla.
Baseball Nut from BR 31 Flavors is my all time favorite. Available during baseball season. Imagine that! I like quite a few store bought ice creams. Godiva makes great chocolate ice creams. (I bet no one saw that coming ) Ben & Jerry's use to make Dastardly Mash which was to-die-for. Since I am doing the low carb lifestyle thingy, my ice cream choices have been greatly reduced. Two good ones are Bunny Tracks by Blue Bunny and Chocolate Fudge Swirl? by Atkins Endulge.
i personally like pecan prailines n' cream from blue bell ice cream. i lived in ann arbor for a few summers and got to try Stucchi's. they have some pretty good stuff. one is located near richmond and weslayan i believe. i went to UT so yes, amy's is great-mexican vanilla with fresh strawberries. i will try hank's...sounds yummy! anyone know which movie the line "rooocky roooad" comes from? my favorite movie of course...
I really miss Blue Bell Ice Cream. I wish I could get it here. I really learned what it means to take something for granted. I never gave Blue Bell the proper appreciation until I moved away.
I think it's rather funny we can discuss ice-cream in December here. And I could go for some today, too. I wouldn't have been so enthused if we were still living in Chicago.
