Less than two weeks before closing. I'm in search of a good, affordable home insurance company. My car is done through State Farm but I've been hearing the "big boys" in insurance don't want to deal with the mold issues anymore and have been jacking up their rates and almost discouraging business.

I've heard the home fix-it radio guy, Tom Tynan, mention Amica insurance as being a possible choice. Anyone used them? I'm currently on hold with them (10 minutes and counting) so I may know more later.

    Thanks,
    os

I just recently signed up for Allstate home insurance (after a break-in... doh!)

I already use them for auto insurance...

unfortunately they don't cover the mold problems either... ever since last year, i think you'd be hardpressed to find an insurance company to cover mold issues here in Texas... sorry :(

    Allstate is extremely affordable though...

I've dealt with Farmers for auto insurance for almost 10 years, I've used them for my house for over 6 years.
Never had a single problem and they are quite inexpensive.

    Farmers it is then....

I get group discounts thru work with MetLife Home and Auto. It's cheaper than anyone else out there because of the discount, with better deductibles and coverage amount.

Of course, mold coverage is extra... a lot extra.

How does this stuff (mold) suddenly appear on our radars? What is behind this mold madness??

Well, many claim that the reason there's so much mold these days is because of insurers not paying to properly repair roofs damaged in previous storms, thereby causing leaks and eventually a mold problem.

But I don't see how that could possibly account for all that much of the problem as it is significantly widespread (and even Ed McMahon's house was infested. He claims it killed his dog. I assume from respiratory issues, and not from swallowing the dog up like something out of a bad B-movie).

I think that was just an excuse because "I've got a headache" wasn't working anymore.
