#1 defeats #2 easily.... this ain't no BCS/college football with random teams in the Top 10 every week and getting beat the next week by an unranked team : <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uhbxN4NO38k"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uhbxN4NO38k" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

In terms of impact? I'd go with John Bonham. In terms of pure skill? Peart definitely. Listening to some of Rush's songs, it's amazing to hear the presence of the drums in their music. Surprised no one has mentioned the one-armed Def Leppard drummer yet. Saw that guy live when they came to town, and they put on a pretty good show.
Heres a few of my favs Igor Cavalera-Sepultura <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/91K-WxSFYUg"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/91K-WxSFYUg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Jon Theodore-ex marsvolta <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VV5U1z7tZbo"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VV5U1z7tZbo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
how much do drums cost? are there usually good deals on em, around christmas time and such? wanna learn how to play them at some point in my life.
I am not that big of a follower of the drummers, but Michael Shrieve on Soul Sacrifice is some of the best drumming I've heard. Also, I really like the drummer in The Los lonely Boys. He plays really strong.
the thread said "best drummer alive today" yet i keep seeing Bonham and Keith Moon thrown around.. speaking of Steely Dan, I'm going with their current touring drummer Keith Carlock from UNT... he was Sting's last touring drummer before the Police reunion as well <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_63R8EAu6WI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_63R8EAu6WI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

John Bonham is alive in the music, so I'm gonna go with him. If you got have a living guy though... I like Dave Grohl and the drummer from System of a Down.
