I guess Cost is my primary concern

I have found Southwest and Airtran to be good
    esp for short flights

Which ones stand out to you?

Cost wise, Southwest, hands down...I travel back and forth to H-Town a lot and its cost effective for me, especially given $3 gas...

Even if its not my $, i'll still fly Southwest to get my free ticket...I've found US Airways, on occassion, has good deals, as do AA, although, its very rare...

I was looking for tickets to New York a few days ago for a end of summer trip. I looked at all those websites and the cheapest turned out to be continental at www.continental.com. For some reason priceline and all those others were more expensive even when showing continental. I realized that it would actually save me 50 bucks if I flew in to La Guardia instead of JFK. So i guess its random and not really set. It was cheaper than Southwest and Air Tran

Continental Express Airlines are great. I like how every seat is leather. Some of the older planes that have cloth seats have an odor that you know is deep inside the seat and now all over your clothes and hair.

Southwest is great because its cheap and flies almost anywhere you need to go from Texas. I like Continental a lot as well.

But the best is Singapore Airlines IMO. Really nice/new planes with really good service and REALLY HOT flight attendants. I'm sure many of ya'll don't fly to Asia all that often but Singapore Airlines is the way to go if you do.

Continental: I live much closer to Bush than to Hobby, so I tend to fly Continental instead of Southwest for national flights. The tickets usually cost the same or a little more, and they're well worth the convenience.

Air France: They fly non-stop from Bush to CDG, and the 777 they use is amazing.

I think Southwest is overrated in terms of being cheap. Maybe if you are flying in the state of Texas, but other than that I've found that Continental matches them when flying to most major cities. And I'll pay a little more just to get an assigned seat if that's the case.

I prefer Continental over Northwest and Delta because Continental still attempts some level of customer service. Continental doesn't charge for drinks or snacks or even meals. The agents are friendlier, blah blah blah. Regarding SWA, if they beat Continental than great. I'm a mileage hog so I usually prefer Continental anyway if the price is anywhere in the range.

it depends. i typically agree. but i've yet to find an airline that beats SWA's internet fares...i mean they're special internet discount fares. now you have to time it just right. but those fares are really good.

but outside of those fares, which can be farely limited, continental's fares are usually the same and sometimes better.

you probably already know this, then...but you can earn miles off buying groceries at Randall's using a Remarkable Card.

Southwest is a cattle call..... I hate when people run up to get in line even before the plane freaking lands.....

I want to sit and chill in my uncomfortable airport seat, and not have to worry about whether or not Im going to get my aisle seat. Also I can show up 10 minutes prior to boarding and not have to worry about getting a high number at SW.

SW recently eliminated this by allowing you to print out your boarding pass from their website.

Jet Blue and SW should be the cheapest due to their outsourcing and insourcing system.

The best way to avoid that is to check in online 24 hours prior to the flight. You can get your "A" card then.

Southwest is experimenting with assigned seats (I think in San Diego) and may go that way in the future.

For me, it totaly depends on where I'm going. Living in Austin, I try to get as many direct flights as possible. If I have to go west, I'll typically fly Southwest, especially to Vegas, Phoenix or San Diego. If I'm going east, it's almost always going to be Continental. Still have to go through Houston, but the price is typically better with Continental. I like to fly American, but their prices are through the roof. With Delta basically out of Dallas, most of their flights going through Atlanta are on puddle jumpers. That's way too long of a flight for that.

I also really like Frontier. Can't complain about a tv in every seat.

I've heard that the experiment did not go well. They didn't tell people they were doing it. Those that had originally checked in and got the A group ended up in middle seats. I;m sure they can find a way to perfect the system, but it won't be like the other airlines where you get an assigned seat upon purchase.
