Congrats to Manny, but especially to us Horn fans... with Berlin a Hurricane, Vincent Young is all but committed to Texas. I wouldn't be shocked if he made a commitment this weekend. Never have I been so excited for a transfer between two teams I don't really care about... Florida backup quarterback choses Miami SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) -- Brock Berlin, the Florida quarterback who rode the bench most of the last two seasons behind fellow sophomore Rex Grossman, said Thursday night he is transferring to the University of Miami. ``I've decided to leave the University of Florida and head down to the University of Miami,'' Berlin said at a hastily called news conference in his hometown. ``I just wanted to make sure I was making the right choice. I felt good about it. I was looking for the best situation for me.'' The announcement wasn't unexpected, but the timing was. Berlin had said earlier that he would make the decision soon after Florida played Maryland in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 2. But all decisions were put on hold when coach Steve Spurrier unexpectedly resigned last week. Berlin threw for 483 yards and nine touchdowns this season. He started Florida's 56-23 victory over Maryland in the Orange Bowl, going 11-for-19 for 196 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Berlin got the start after Grossman was disciplined by Spurrier for missing a curfew. Berlin's freshman year was pretty much a waste, when Spurrier burned his redshirt option early in the season, then didn't play him once Grossman emerged as the starter over Jesse Palmer. Before he resigned, Spurrier granted Berlin permission to look elsewhere. At Miami, Berlin will have to sit out one season before becoming eligible to play. ``I really like their offense,'' Berlin said. ``Their coaching staff is a really good staff to talk to, really good people. And it's not really a big move from the University of Florida, just a few hours down south.'' He said whether Grossman decides to remain at Florida under new head coach Ron Zook wasn't a major consideration in his decision. ``Obviously, one of the biggest reasons I came to the University of Florida was to play for coach Steve Spurrier,'' Berlin said. ``It made a difference when the guy I came there for left, but there were other reasons, too.'' http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news/ap/20020110/ap-florida-berlin.html
I'm trying reeeeally hard not to count my chickens before they're hatched, but. . . things are definitely swinging the right way for UT. first off, Young has said recently that he wants to play somewhere "where his mom will be able to see him". that sounds a lot more like Austin than Miami. even better, during the recent All-Star game in San Antonio, Young was hanging out with the following players the most: Albert Hardy [UT commitment] and Larry Dibbles [UT commitment]. plus, the 3 of them were said to be really working on Marvin Byrdsong, another coveted UT recruit. now, this Berlin thing. if Vincent Young commits to Texas, I'm going to smile a very big, wide smile.
chevious, from what I know, if Mack offers Marvin, Marvin will be in burnt orange. I know that sounds arrogant, but reliable sources say that Marvin really wants to be a Horn, but other issues are in the way. Young is starting to look real good.
Young will be visiting the UT campus this weekend. He still says he wants to visit Arkansas and Miami last I heard. OS
