Brett Favre might have had the worst day of any QB this weekend. It's pretty obvious that whatever he had is not coming back. He might have one or two more good games left, but his career is pretty much over. The question now becomes, do you bench an icon that has started more consecutive games than any QB in NFL history? Do the Packers give him sympathy starts, then bring in Aaron Rogers at the end of the first quarter, or just throw Rogers in there and see what he can do? I think Favre is humble enough to not get offended if he gets benched. There might be some fan backlash, but it probably won't last long, especially if Rogers performs well.
i never get why there is. if benching him improves your team, i'm all for it. it's just like Biggio. he should be benched on the road. of course, fans will get upset b/c it'll mean less atbats to get to 3,000, but i don't care. if it means we score more runs, so be it.
Hell, you could do this poll for Bledsoe and Plummer as well...All three of they guys had terrible days and tons of INT's... He should be sat down if he plays like this...
Yeah, but Bledsoe and Plummer aren't franchise icons like Favre is. There are a lot more variables involved with Favre. Chris Simms was barely acceptable as a college QB, let alone an NFL QB...
You forgot to say "bench Carr!". I hear all the haters out there going off about whom we didn't pick. Does 102.1 passer rating say anything to you? I say NO, don't bench him, and make him realize he should have retired.
Fair question, but still a small sample size. If, after 4 games, he's put up numbers like 52.4% completion, 3 TDs, and 8 INTs.... yeah, you have to do what's best for the team. But the Bears have the best defense in the league, so he gets at least a few more games.
Notice that Farve didnt have any pics in the first half....Maybe even the first three quarters...Its not his fault his team sucks..Once it comes down to it, he hates to loose and he has to try something else...ie winning it all by himself...His team just sucks so bad that Joe Montana in his prime would look bad with this team. Farve is just trying to win, he doesnt care if he throws pics when hes down 24-0...They'd lose reguardless if he didnt try to force something.
Even the more reason to bench him. If you're going to lose, you might as well give a young QB some experience rather than a has-been...
They knew this going into the year....At least give Farve the opportunity to go to another team like the Vikings that may be just a good QB away from making the playoffs.
And I dont know about that...Confidence is a big thing...You dont want to just throw an unproven QB in a bad situation...But if they feel he's ready... Why not...i give them at best 6-7 wins with Favre. 3-4 without.
What does that have to do with him being traded? If he retired they still had the rights to him because he is under contract....But I do somewhat agree. Its his own fault for taking up the challenge and not asking for a trade...I personally think he should have went to the Dolphins before they got Cullpepper
I disagree, Ognil. Of all the quarterbacks traded from COLD-WEATHER teams to HOT-WEATHER teams, the only one I have seen do well in the latter is Warren Moon. I don't think Favre will do well in the heat. Name another, if you can come up with one. I believe the team doesn't have as good a cohesion with him playing should-I-go-or-should-I-stay during the offseason. He didn't only play that game with management, but he played it with the team, and that hurt it. It didn't do it well, at least.
Warren Moon? What cold weather team did he play for and do well? The Vikings play in a dome. Technically these QB's haveand these are just current players) Mark Brunell Matt Hassleback Brad Johnson Steve Mcnair (from Houston to Tenesse) (if you consider that cold) Jake Plummer
It was also obvious going into this year that Favre was done as an effective NFL QB. You can blame his team all you want, but it was painfully obvious that a lot of his poor play last year was due to his own diminished capabilities. Well, considering that no team will trade for a player who might not come back, it has a lot do with it; also I don't believe you can trade a player who has officially retired and filed his paperwork with the league. Favre has one person to blame for what will be a long and painful season: Favre.
