I know this is like wasting your three wishes from the Genie in the Lamp, but I want to know anyway.

How many hotdogs can Yao eat in a day?

if not that I just want to know how much he can eat....this stuff fascinates me.

it's funny but shows you don't know chinese. if you have his teamates and coaches in front of him he'll never fight to get ahead, and most likely he'll do just the opposite. it only works with strangers. so, i'd say put me in front of him! :D

Del Harris scared the **** out of Yao:

According to the reporters, Del told Yao that the only chance that China can advance to the top 8 teams at the Olympics is that Yao plays 35 min each game and averages 40 ppg. Figuring that Yao was scared to death, Del then said that he was just joking.

I guess that Del really believes that Yao needs to play at least 30 min each game and average at least 28 ppg for China to have a chance to advance.

    ***********************************************

Pau Gasol showed why he is a genius by telling the media that he believes that Spain can beat China if that they can contain Yao. It seems that he made a great discovery in figuring out that China is a really one man team.

    ***********************************************

After watching all 3 games that Yao played in the diamond cup, I think that he will face much less double/triple teams the opponents threw at him next season. The opponents have to be concerned about Tmac at the perimeter, and neither Howard nor JJ is chopped liver. That bodes well for Yao for his 3rd season in Houston.

We will see. Yao has trouble beating fronting. If Yao starts going early, the double team might still comes to his way. Nonetherless, he should have a easier time, if he and T-Mac can play together.

not only will he not be double teamed as much...

but opponents will be less likely to run in and strip the ball with t-mac and the gang hanging out on the perimeter.

    anyways...

    this post rocks...

It's really cool that Dan has done this and Del has taken the time to respond.

I would be curious to know if he has talked to Yao about developing a sky hook...

also what he thinks Yao can do to minimize turnovers.

    Great stuff!

Great work TraderDan! This is one of the best threads on the BBS!

Now, lets get some JUICY STUFF! Here are a few question ideas for Mr. Harris.

    1. Do you feel that their are any genetic differences in terms of athletic ability (size, speed, strength etc.) between the Chinese players and the American players? If so, please elaborate.

    2. Are there any groupies following the Chinese team? Any for Yao Ming?

Are you serious. Del Harris wouldn't touch either of those questions with a ten foot pole.

Ask him if he feels there are any advantages to coaching the CNT over coaching the US Dream Team. In other words, what about his team/experience might Larry Brown envy.

What are the Chinese players saying after the recent losses/close calls by the US team. Is it at all motivating to see that a good team can beat a team of good players?

    Hello Del,

Thank you very much, everybody loves the answers. The questions:

    - It seems to us both the US and Chinese team have too many scorers and not enough role players. Do you agree and in that case how are you working to remedy this?
    - Team chemistry is a challenge on national teams because of little time playing together. It is also an issue for NBA teams such as our Rockets and your Mavs with some new parts. What is your experience regarding this issue? Is time the only solution or are there ways to work around it?
    - I’m picking between so many questions about Yao and how he is doing, if he has gained any weight, if he has worked hard on his conditioning and so on. Are these the right things to look for or what would you say are the key for Yao in the upcoming season to take his game to the next level.

    Thank you and good luck,

    Dan Malberg

dan----these questions are too involved---time is at a premium here because i have to do all the scouting, the video work and the game plans, practice plans and coaching. with Jonas Kaslauskas out the only people speaking english are yao and the interpreter who is now having to interpret for so many people except for yao. he does an incredible job, but is just one man. we are way understaffed and under equipped. we have not been able to get video edits, just the video, so i cannot use the video teaching like it needs to be done. it took over an hour and a half to go thru some tape with our team tonite since we cannot edit---

as for china having too many offensive players, someone has not been watching. it is difficult for us to score. we have no one averaging over 10 points a game except for yao. we have great kids who really work hard but they are better on defense than they are on offense. we are 8-3 against international competition in the time i have been with the team, but scoring has not generally been easy with the exception of a couple of games in china.

yao is in good shape, is a great worker, leader, player and now a friend. i have intense respect and care for him and have similar regard for all these great kids. he stands out as much as anything because he wouldn't have to do the same things the others do, but he does. he picks up things, helps carry equipment, helps interpret---and yet he is like elvis---he is the pied piper, the most saught after picture, autograph, handshake in this event-----------------and he does as much as anyone could ask in all those areas\

    regards, del

I’m feeling bad. I don’t want to take his time anymore. Perhaps the questions this time was a little complicated but it seems he is committed to doing this no matter what. The guy is great but if he can work 12 minutes more a week on video editing maybe we should stop. What do you think?

Btw, was q#2 that off? Didn’t even Yao say that himself?

Being able to get answers from him has been pretty cool. You've done a great job.

But, out of respect for his situation, time and all he has tried to do to be responsive to you, I would send him a message saying thanks, good luck, and mention you will give him time to focus on his current task and seek more of his insight after the olympics end.

That's just my opinion, though. You've clearly done a good job and have handled him well, so you probably don't need any advice from me.

    Dan,

He does sound rushed and he's so tired he almost fell over in the opening ceremony. :) My first reaction is... HELP THE MAN OUT!!!

Let's break down some tape and do some scouting for him!!!

I believe we've got the horses in here... and if we don't we can give him a damn good laugh.

    China's upcoming games:

vs New Zealand 8/17 (Must win)
    vs Argentina 8/19
    vs Italy 8/21 (Must win)
    vs Serbia-Montenegro 8/23

Suggestion #1: Italy - Jack-it-up Jalonda puts up 3's on the secondary break. China's PF needs to stay in his shorts.

Suggestion #2: Don't get in a last-second situation vs Argentina. If so, double Manu. If you win, run around and around the Argentina coach pumping your arms up and down. ;)
